## What is WhatsApp marketing

WhatsApp marketing is a part of social media marketing (SMM) that small business owners, medium-sized companies, and market giants use to promote their brands, reach out to an enormous audience, build and improve customer relationships, and increase sales.

[80%](https://www.forbes.com/sites/marketshare/2012/05/07/are-brands-wielding-more-influence-in-social-media-than-we-thought/?sh=5e0ce68471e1) of consumers claim that social media, especially influencer content, significantly impacts their buying decisions. It takes business activities on social media, including WhatsApp, from a ‘why not give it a try’ thing to a powerful marketing tool for growing audience, brand awareness, and sales.

In 2022 WhatsApp [topped the list of the most popular messaging apps](https://www.statista.com/statistics/272014/global-social-networks-ranked-by-number-of-users/), and businesses worldwide keep including WhatsApp in their marketing strategies. It’s an excellent platform, enabling people to share text, images, video, and voice messages and supporting voice and video calling.

Let’s take a look at what makes WhatsApp marketing beneficial.

## Benefits of using WhatsApp marketing

Including WhatsApp in your social media marketing strategy can transform your approach to customer service, lead generation, and communication with existing customers, helping you create a memorable and positive connection with your brand.

Here’re the primary benefits for companies that use WhatsApp messaging for business:

### Staying in touch with the biggest audience

As mentioned, WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app worldwide, with around two billion users. So you can’t overvalue being where your audience and leads are to promote your brand, engage with prospects, send relevant offers, and sell. Plus, WhatsApp’s interface is familiar to many people, making communication smooth for both sides — your customers and you.

### Improving customer experience and support

Stay on the same page with your leads and customers when you promote and sell products or services — WhatsApp is a convenient platform to do so. Look at user answers about what they value the most about interacting with WhatsApp Business accounts:

<figure><img alt="Benefits 1.png" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6/original_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6.webp" height="1488" width="2080" blurdataurl="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAIAAAA7ljmRAAAACXBIWXMAAAsTAAALEwEAmpwYAAAAMklEQVR4nAEnANj/AECagABJJgBoRJzmzwAxqYoAIwAAlXfJ//AAVribS7eZy//0xf3tJfwSw9OenA0AAAAASUVORK5CYII=" placeholder="blur" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6/xs_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6/sm_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6/md_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6/lg_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6/xl_whatsapp_marketing_1_ed9b10bbb6.webp 2080w"><figcaption>Benefits of interacting with businesses on WhatsApp.</figcaption></figure>

### Increasing profitability

Customer service is vital and might be costly when not well-organized. On the other hand, its streamlined process cuts operating expenses significantly. According to Gartner, Inc., by 2025, 80% of customer service organizations will have abandoned native mobile apps in favor of messaging for a better customer experience.

These and other benefits take WhatsApp above just sending messages. Therefore, including WhatsApp is the most popular concert for improving business performance. And another impressive advantage for businesses using WhatsApp is the open rate of around 98%.

Let’s focus on setting up a WhatsApp marketing strategy so you can get started immediately and implement it.

## WhatsApp marketing strategy

WhatsApp lets you build personal connections and long-term relationships with your audience. When there’s an emotional connection with the brand, leads convert to long-term customers seamlessly. Keeping it in mind, you can build a strong marketing strategy for WhatsApp:

1.  Set your goals.
2.  Define your target audience.
3. Download WhatsApp Business App and set up your business account.
4.  Create a contact list.
5. Set up your business profile, catalog, ads, and messaging in Tools.
6. Build a communicational flow with automated messages for better results.

While the first five steps are standard for most messaging platforms, the last one deserves a closer look. Today, when we chat, buy, and sell on the go, setting up away, messages is a must. Use them to greet your customers, introduce your business, and let them know you’re away.

For your inspiration, below are some ideas and examples of marketing on WhatsApp.

## WhatsApp marketing tips

To take the most out of WhatsApp for your business, use some hacks:

- **Create broadcast lists and group chats**

The goal is to simultaneously send the same messages to a certain number of contacts. It saves your time and other resources and brings better marketing results. But there’s a difference you should keep in mind while setting up and sending messages to broadcast lists and group chats. Group chat members can see each other, your messages, and other members’ opinions on them. In contrast, broadcast lists are a set of one-on-one chats.

- **Create a catalog of your products or services**

WhatsApp displays it on your business profile. You can add up to 500 items in your catalog with the four primary fields for each item: price, description, website link, and product code. Also, your customers can share your catalog items with their friends, which helps you promote your brand and reach more potential customers. As an owner, you can send your entire catalog to existing customers and share it on social media and other platforms to invite more prospects to discover your business and message you directly.

-   **Personalize communication**

According to Zendesk, 70% of consumers spend more with companies that offer fluid, personalized, and seamless customer experiences. And WhatsApp is a perfect place to provide all of those to your audience. It corresponds with the primary marketing rules: listen to your audience, learn more about their needs, and provide value.

## Unlock the power of WhatsApp for your business with automation

With its built-in features and global audience, WhatsApp is a great marketing tool for companies across industries. And automation lets businesses like yours use artificial intelligence (AI) to manage all messages instantly, providing customers with an outstanding experience. For example, you could take personalization to the next level and use not only customers’ phone numbers and other essential info but also their previous answers, preferences, order details, and other specific data.

As an official Meta’s partner and a platform for marketing automation with 7+ million users, Chatfuel makes it possible and easy to implement — so [get started](https://dashboard.chatfuel.com/) today.

In 2022 WhatsApp became the most popular messaging app. Learn about using it for business, a marketing strategy, examples, and tips.

WhatsApp marketing: strategy, tips and examples

One of the most prominent signs of a successful chatbot is that your customers barely notice if they are chatting with a human or a bot.

A global study revealed that [56%](https://popupsmart.com/blog/chatbot-statistics) of customers prefer to speak to a human instead of using a chatbot. But if you can make your chatbot script more conversational, they could drive a lot more conversions instead of stalling customers and burdening your team members.

In this article, you’ll learn a step-by-step process to write a chatbot script that keeps your conversations (and conversions) flowing effortlessly. We’ll also be sharing some high-conversion chatbot script templates to help you start writing.

## How do you write a chatbot script?

Did you know [72%](https://www.salesforce.com/resources/articles/customer-expectations/?sfdc-redirect=369) of customers expect brands to show that they understand their needs through personalized experiences?

'Personalized experience' is the keyword here. Again, you don’t need to be a coding genius to do that; you need to care enough about what your customers need.

A well-written conversation script anticipates where customers are on their brand journey to give them appropriate answers to take the next step.

Remember, the more human your conversational flow is, the more human your workplace becomes, as you can offload all the repetitive customer engagements to your chatbots.

So here’s a step-by-step guide to guarantee your chatbot conversational flows provide a great user experience:

### 1\. Be specific with your chatbot goal

If you’re going for a drive, you have to set your destination before mapping the best routes to get there. Similarly, a good chatbot needs a clear call-to-action (CTA). You need to map out your customer’s journey to map out your conversational flows.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f/xs_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f/sm_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f/md_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f/lg_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f/xl_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f.webp 605w" width="605" height="559" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f/original_chatbots_script_examples_1_b842acbd5f.webp" alt="image.png"><figcaption>A flowchart mapping out your initial responses once they initiate a conversation with your bot.</figcaption></figure>

The more specific your CTA is, the more credible and actionable it appears to your customers.

For example, educating your customers about your product’s impact is a broader goal. However, convincing them to download your annual report of successful case studies is a more specific goal.

### 2\. Use the right voice for the right scenario

Artificial intelligence (AI) empowers chatbots to identify user sentiment and respond to not just the content of the query but the tone of your customer.

Don’t be afraid of small talk or using fillers like ‘umm’ and ‘hmm’ or emojis wherever appropriate to make the conversation more relatable.

Professional or casual, firm or humorous, your bot scripts should be appropriate for your brand image and the particular scenario.

For example, avoid robotic responses to unhappy customers like:

*‘Kindly share your order details, and we’ll take a look.’*

Match their emotions while being firm and professional by responding with the following:

*‘Oh, we’re sorry to hear that. Could you please share your order details so we can help you get the best experience from your (product name)? ’*

### 3\. Collaborate with your team to build your conversation flows

You can only design a user-centric live chat experience if you know how to step into your customers' shoes. Invite the marketing, sales, and customer support team members who deal with them daily to help you.

They know your customer’s struggles at each stage of your sales funnel.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e/xs_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e/sm_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e/md_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e/lg_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e/xl_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e.webp 1280w" width="1280" height="719" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e/original_chatbots_script_examples_2_899951011e.webp" alt="image.png"><figcaption>The three key stages of your buyer’s journey.</figcaption></figure>

They can even tell you the most common phrases customers use to help you optimize your trigger keywords.

Once you frame their queries in the most relatable way possible, try to create a few different versions of your responses to make your bot sound more like a human agent.

### 4\. Personalize your conversations

Personalization is the secret to build a chatbot that sounds like a real person.

It could start with something subtle, like using your customer’s first name in a welcome message. Or, you can use a series of Q&As to lead them to relevant product recommendations.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b/xs_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b/sm_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b/md_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b/lg_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b/xl_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b.webp 2083w" width="2083" height="1229" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b/original_chatbots_script_examples_3_2ff6542d9b.webp" alt="932d7d6afab960e3975935c703079095d86734e03ae19cfc4c12bfccfa8c964ae59ea3352572c5e8b9288f39757899ecafed5c1714760ec1b8a0d41a911be3d3118df328eb2e8fea8a91a9c7505b895e251846987dfe684d37c4ddd.jpg"><figcaption>Sephora offers personalized beauty product recommendations.</figcaption></figure>

Tap into your customer’s data and browsing history to anticipate their needs and design conversations accordingly.

### 5\. Use responses that help add more depth to your customer profiles

If you want to train your chatbot to get more intelligent faster, here’s a secret — use your questions and responses to sort out your customer’s preferences.

For instance, you can ask your customer what their favorite color is in an introductory survey form and use those details to give them product recommendations with their favorite color later.

Try to get a deeper understanding of their likes and dislikes. By doing this, you’re setting the stage for designing more engaging shopping journeys for them in the future.

### 6\. Know when to offer human intervention

A chatbot can take care of 80% of routine user questions, but it can’t guarantee 100% accuracy. Misunderstandings and interruptions will pop up every now and then, and your chatbot will only make it more frustrating if it’s unable to process your customer’s request.

Your bot can escalate the conversation to a human agent if it detects that your customer needs a more relevant answer.

## Chatbot scripts best practices and tips

We’ve covered the essentials of how to write a good chatbot script. Here are a few more ways you can optimize it further:

- Use active voice for a more friendly, intimate connection with your target audience. Passive voice is better suited for a more professional, high-level educational approach.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72/xs_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72/sm_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72/md_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72/lg_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72/xl_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72.webp 940w" width="940" height="335" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72/original_chatbots_script_examples_5_19ac51ef72.webp" alt="image.png"><figcaption>Active voice vs. passive voice.</figcaption></figure>

- Be concise. It’s a book’s job to make readers contemplate, but a chatbot’s job is to make people act. Try to keep each message limited to three lines of text (60 to 90 characters).

A step-by-step guide to write a perfect chatbot script

If you’ve been on LinkedIn or other social media for even a minute in the past few weeks, you’ve probably heard of ChatGPT. OpenAI released it on November 30, 2022, and it crossed 1 million users in less than a week. That’s some impressive growth. For reference, it took Instagram 2.5 months to gain the same number of users.

The consensus is clear: ChatGPT is amazing at what it does and is the best conversational AI (artificial intelligence) we have to date. Elon Musk even called it “[scary good](https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1599128577068650498).” Keep reading to find out what ChatGPT is, what it’s used for, whether it’s free or not, how you can access it, and more.

## What is OpenAI?

OpenAI is the company behind ChatGPT. Based out of San Francisco, California (United States), this research laboratory has been working on various AI projects since 2015. It’s also the company behind DALL-E, the AI model that can generate images from natural language descriptions. Similarly to ChatGPT, DALL-E took the internet by storm when it was released.

OpenAI was founded by Sam Altman, former president of the Y Combinator, and Elon Musk, the tech billionaire who’s been highly public about both his interest and fear of AI. According to their website, their mission is to “[ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity.](https://openai.com/about/)”

## What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a large language model made by OpenAI and built on top of their GPT-3 family of large language models. In simple words, Guid Partition Table (GPT)  is an AI that is trained with large amounts of data and human supervision. As a result, it can understand natural language and respond to it. For example, you can ask it a question, such as “What are some criteria by which I should pick a chatbot for my website?” and it will answer it.

We went and asked ChatGPT that question. This is the answer it gave me within about 15 seconds:

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623/xs_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623/sm_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623/md_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623/lg_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623/xl_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623.webp 713w" width="713" height="639" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623/original_chatgpt_openai_0_8b7a2b3623.webp" alt="image.png"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## What is ChatGPT used for?

ChatGPT is highly versatile, and you can use it for many things. Here are just some of the applications:

1.  Answer questions;

2.  Summarize text;

3.  Generate text (blogs, stories, scripts, etc.);

4.  Write/debug code;

5.  Translate in other languages;

6.  Language modeling, and more.

ChatGPT automates or greatly simplifies many tasks typically done by humans. Your imagination is the only limit.

Let’s say you work in accounting — ChatGPT can write Excel formulas for you, analyze data, organize data, generate reports, and more.

Let’s say you work in marketing — ChatGPT can develop creative marketing ideas for you, write advertisements, write content, come up with video scripts, and more.

You get the idea.

## Is ChatGPT free to use?

OpenAI launched ChatGPT as a free research preview to learn more about the system’s strengths and weaknesses. After that, millions of people used it for professional use cases, brainstorming ideas, programming help, and more.

The company then gathered user feedback to improve the limitations and launched a pilot subscription plan — ChatGPT Plus, and kept the free tier of ChatGPT available.

Introduced on February 1, 2023, ChatGPT Plus costs $20/month and offers a number of benefits to subscribers:

- general access to ChatGPT, even during peak times,

-   faster response times,

- priority access to new features and improvements.

ChatGPT Plus is available to customers around the world.

## How to access ChatGPT?

To get access to ChatGPT, go to chat.openai.com and sign up. First, you’ll need to use your email and create a password, after which you’ll need to verify your email. You’ll also need to provide a phone number and verify it, after which you’ll get access to the tool.

It sounds like a fairy tale statistic, but that’s precisely what WhatsApp automation is helping businesses achieve today.

In this article, we’ll show you how automated WhatsApp messages are the hottest conversational marketing opportunity for your business.

## What is WhatsApp business automation?

Businesses can automate conversations with customers through WhatsApp to instantly resolve their queries. For example, when you send WhatsApp messages to your favorite store and get a lightning-fast response about your order, you’re not the only one. Hundreds of customer messages across the city are being responded to simultaneously.

Scaling responses by minimizing wait time — that’s the core of business automation. Whether you or your customer initiates a conversation, automation can take charge of the next steps with ease.

## How WhatsApp business automation works?

There are three ways to automate your business through WhatsApp:

- Use the [WhatsApp Business](https://business.whatsapp.com/learn-more?cid=FHZT80y26rDWBIE8hUM9y9QVcIGcxhfqMWJJMem75nRGAxJVroNg6rDWZ5Al7lDE7PzjMMImOAdhKM0YNLLSVD5ES44U1O&sfdc_campaign_id=7018V000001UXL0QAK&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsoycBhC6ARIsAPPbeLudBZX7Nes5GZ34KfzvH4D9DDAng0nPTx22a5qjjrIKCA_CfM8s6g8aAvlvEALw_wcB) app.
- Use the [WhatsApp Business API](https://respond.io/blog/whatsapp-business-api) with chatbots.

<figure><img alt="image.png" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336/original_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336.webp" height="731" width="711" blurdataurl="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAAECAIAAAAmkwkpAAAACXBIWXMAAAsTAAALEwEAmpwYAAAAP0lEQVR4nAE0AMv/AMLHx83W0LzKvqGypwAAUEaRr6j///29ycIAABgAYpCH////y9bRAAAcAlN/dubn5aq2syaiHe5PTUQOAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC" placeholder="blur" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336/xs_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336/sm_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336/md_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336/lg_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336/xl_whatsapp_automation_1_a32d6f6336.webp 711w"><figcaption>Features – WhatsApp vs. WhatsApp business.</figcaption></figure>

As you can see, the biggest drawback of WhatsApp Business is that it holds you back from handling the queries of your growing customer base.

## Benefits of WhatsApp business automation

Latest [reports](https://www.juniperresearch.com/press/chatbots-to-deliver-11bn-cost-savings-2023) predict that WhatsApp chatbots will help businesses save over $11 billion and 2.5 billion hours in productivity. Let’s find out the top benefits that your business can gain by using them.

### 1\. Access to a more promising market

Users from all segments exchange over [100 billion](https://www.livemint.com/technology/apps/whatsapp-usage-over-2-billion-users-send-100-billion-messages-each-month-11614243222204.html) messages on WhatsApp every day, making it the most actively engaged and diverse market for businesses to explore.

### 2\. Give your resolution time a massive boost

WhatsApp chatbots are the perfect tools to speed up your response time and your resolution rate. Customers are always accessible on this channel and are quick to continue the conversation. This allows faster two-way communication so you can efficiently give them faster solutions.

### 3\. Create automated marketing campaigns

Connect with your target audiences by responding to what they need at each sales funnel stage. You can optimize your outreach campaigns and proactively send notifications to engage with customers. Automation allows your team members to save time on repetitive tasks and focus on value creation.

### 4\. Create more personalized and dynamic customer interactions

Your chatbot learns from all your customer interactions to personalize your communications for each of them. For example, if your customer was browsing through the sports goods section of your eCommerce store, you can send them a 20% discount code for those products to attract them further. Plus, you can use custom message flows to adapt your engagement strategy in real time.

### 5\. Boost your conversions

Most businesses are lucky to get a [2-5% conversion rate](https://kinsta.com/blog/email-marketing-statistics/#:~:text=In%202021%2C%20the%20average%20conversion,platform%20to%20track%20conversions%20directly.) with their phone messages and emails. But WhatsApp eclipses all other channels in terms of return on investment (ROI) by delivering an astounding conversion rate of 45-60%.

### 6\. Optimize your customer service

If your business gets overwhelmed by a lot of support requests, a WhatsApp chatbot filters out the customers who need human intervention from the ones that can be resolved through automated responses. Customers appreciate that their issue is acknowledged, giving your team some breathing room to get back to them.

## Top 5 use cases and examples of WhatsApp business automation

### 1\. Automated greeting messages

Most customers need more direction when they first engage with your business. And a lack of direction leads to them dropping out early before you even give them a chance to explore your products.

An automated greeting message with a welcome menu to share essential information will eliminate the entry barrier to your sales funnel.

<figure><img alt="air_iphone13blue_portrait.png" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1/original_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1.webp" height="2932" width="1570" blurdataurl="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAIAAAAECAIAAAArjXluAAAACXBIWXMAAAsTAAALEwEAmpwYAAAAJUlEQVR4nGPgFRJnEBBmsPIJlTOyZPj95dv8BcsZ/t86vaqzHQBmCQrnCbGNhAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==" placeholder="blur" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1/xs_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1/sm_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1/md_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1/lg_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1/xl_whatsapp_automation_2_d8f7b28ce1.webp 1570w"><figcaption>AirAsia using an elaborate welcome menu to guide their customers.</figcaption></figure>

### 2\. Share delivery and shipping updates

Delivery and shipping updates are as critical in building trust as all the information that led up to a sale. It’s easy to track the status of their order 24/7 and maintain total transparency through automated notifications.

<figure><img alt="Screenshot_20221130-110308_iphone13blue_portrait.png" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148/original_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148.webp" height="2932" width="1570" blurdataurl="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAIAAAAECAIAAAArjXluAAAACXBIWXMAAAsTAAALEwEAmpwYAAAAJUlEQVR4nGNgEGRhEGFmePj69dtf3xl+/f7/5+8/Bv+AIM/AYACqQw2L6xTLTwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==" placeholder="blur" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148/xs_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148/sm_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148/md_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148/lg_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148/xl_whatsapp_automation_3_9f6454c148.webp 1570w"><figcaption>Zomato using a chatbot to send food delivery updates.</figcaption></figure>

### 3\. Giving quick replies for FAQs

You will take care of 80% of your customer queries if you use your past interactions to set up quick responses to their most common questions.

<figure><img alt="corona_iphone13blue_portrait.png" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629/original_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629.webp" height="2932" width="1570" blurdataurl="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAIAAAAECAIAAAArjXluAAAACXBIWXMAAAsTAAALEwEAmpwYAAAAJUlEQVR4nGNgZmHh4edh+PLty9cvHxm+//z+7dsnBkVlVTU1dQCobAyMiQn3EwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==" placeholder="blur" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629/xs_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629/sm_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629/md_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629/lg_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629/xl_whatsapp_automation_4_c32f9e8629.webp 1570w"><figcaption>The Indian healthcare ministry using a chatbot to handle COVID-related queries.</figcaption></figure>

### 4\. Recommend products and share special offers

WhatsApp chatbots allow you to create a customized product catalog to offer a smooth customer experience, so they don’t have to switch from one channel to another.

If you can create an engaging message flow, you can make relevant product recommendations based on their needs. You can also share discount and sale notifications to [re-engage](https://chatfuel.com/blog/customer-re-engagement-chatbot) with them. WhatsApp is also a great platform to close 45-60% of missed sales through abandoned carts and application drop-offs.

### 5\. Gathering feedback and reviews

Once your customer has completed their purchase, and you’ve delivered their product, you need to keep your ears open to feedback to improve their experience. It’s also the key to building brand loyalty.

Your WhatsApp bot can automate the feedback collection process and build unique customer profiles, which you can use for more personalized targeting.

WhatsApp Business Automation: Competitive Edge

I spoke with Sasha, one of the founders who made Violetta. A chatbot that provides a safe space for people to determine and talk about possible violence in their relationships. She told me how they came up with Violetta and raised $350K in funding, how their work impacts people’s lives and how a chatbot helped them reach way more people than they expected.

## Can you describe your project for us? What does Violetta do?

Violetta is a mental health chatbot that helps people create better relationships and prevent violence. It has become a digital confidant for more than 62,000 people around México. By using an automatized conversation, Violetta can share valuable information, give relationship advice, share tools, and connect users to professional psychological help.

Violetta has received more than 62,000 unique users. 45,000 of which have been re-directed to receive professional help.

Violetta is meant to give an empathic and fun experience while talking about sensitive topics. She offers relevant content, mainly focused on psychological violence, the one that is often “invisible”.

## What was your motivation for launching Violetta? Tell us about your journey so far

When the pandemic began, we realized that there was a tremendous need for a safe space where people could discuss their relationships and identify if those things that kept them uncomfortable were, in fact, violence.

We saw that the demand for psychological help regarding gender violence was way bigger than the number of available psychologists. So we created a solution that could optimize the process of identifying violence and provide sound advice to many people at the same time.

We are 4 women founders, who want to create a safer space for everyone going through a situation of psychological violence.

## What brought you to Chatfuel? How did it help you reach your funding goals?

After extensive research of low-code / no-code chatbot builders, we went with Chatfuel because of its integration with Messenger and its intuitive interface. We wanted to prove the hypothesis that people would open up to a chatbot to talk about their deepest concerns and ask the intimate questions.

Chatfuel helped us build an MVP (minimum viable product) that helped us raise around $350K to operate, grow and build a new product.

## Why did you chose to use a chatbot instead of phone calls or other tools?

We wanted to optimize the process of providing help. We understood 3 things:

-   People are way more honest with the stuff they share online rather than with other people;
-   There is a need for fact-checked information about violence, gender, and mental health topics online;
- We could optimize the process by providing psychological help via a chatbot that segments every user by their needs.

## When did you know Violetta was a success?

When people started texting: “Hey Violetta, I’m feeling this way”, we saw that they truly see her as a friend. Also when we saw that people would come back plenty of times to ask more questions and get validated answers.

## Are you happy with the results that you’ve got? Can you give us an overall look?

Definitely, but we are working daily on improving it.

Providing free help to more than 62,000 users is huge for us. I can’t think about how much it would cost to provide psychological help to this many people at the same time.

## Did you and your team have a background in this? Did you run an NGO before?

It’s funny, but we didn’t have a background either in the tech or NGO (non-governmental organization) world. We had to learn everything from scratch.

But it is going really well. We’ve learned that there is no single aspect that you can’t learn from experts or by browsing the web.

## Are you going to incorporate chatbots into your future strategy?

Yes, Violetta as a chatbot is just the beginning. It is a great way to create empathy with the users and give us valuable information, feedback and data.

## What would be your one piece of advice to someone who wants to incorporate a chatbot into their business?

Be clear on the problem you are trying to solve. Focus on a single thing. And start building the solution for it.

To have a successful chatbot, you’ll need to have a solid understanding about your business and its processes.

Also, a chatbot is just the way you solve a process and not the solution itself.

## What’s next for your team?

We are about to launch a new chatbot in Whatsapp, we’re expanding to other LATAM countries and Spanish-speaking communities in the USA. We’ve trained the first AI algorithm that detects psychological violence using NLP (natural language processing).

We are offering Violetta as a solution for companies, governments, and educational institutions so we can impact more people at the same time.

Chatbots are picking up steam by the day. In fact, [74%](https://free-reports.psfk.com) of shoppers say they prefer talking to a chatbot if they’re looking for answers to simple questions. And it seems like this trend will continue growing, especially for retail companies.

But if you’re new to chatbots, you’re probably looking to get informed before you build one for your own business. In this article, that’s exactly what we’ll do. We’ll go over what a chatbot is, how it works, what chatbot architecture is, and more. Let’s get started.

## What is a chatbot?

A chatbot is a computer program that simulates human conversation. It can operate both through text and voice, but chatbots are normally used in text form.

Chatbots are great at communicating simple yet repetitive information. Most commonly, they are used in customer service. For example, a chatbot might help you find your tracking number, learn about the return policy, find a product, and other FAQs and easy questions. However, nowadays, chatbots are getting smarter. You can build a chatbot to handle more complex issues and even use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to understand customer service requests from written text.

However, sometimes customers have requests beyond the chatbot’s capabilities. In those cases, automation typically transfers them to a live agent trained to deal with more complex issues.

Companies like to use chatbots because they’re cheap and help to reduce the number of people needed to deal with customers. On the other hand, customers like bots because they’re available 24/7 and can give them answers immediately.

## How do chatbots work?

At Chatfuel, you can set up a chatbot for your website, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp. But regardless of the platform, at their core, they’re the same.

In a nutshell, the way a chatbot works is simple. First, a customer uses an Entry Point to start a conversation, after which the chatbot goes through a flow you set up to communicate with the customer and resolve their questions or problems.

At Chatfuel, Entry Point is where the customers start interacting with the chatbot. Examples include the following:

-   **Bot link.** You sent a customer the direct link that opens a conversation with a chatbot;

-   **Facebook Comments.** A user comments on one of your Facebook posts and triggers a bot to reply to them or message them;

- **Instagram DM.** A follower sends you a private message, which opens a conversation with a bot.

A flow, on the other hand, is a conversational scenario your users go through when interacting with one of your bots. Flows are different based on what their purpose is. For example, you can have different flows for lead generation, answering frequently asked questions (FAQs), product recommendations, feedback collection, and many other purposes. These flows can all be part of one chatbot or be separate from each other. See below an example of a simple FAQs flow connected to the Facebook Page Entry Point.

## What is chatbot architecture?

Chatbot architecture is the backend that makes your chatbot work. It might differ on a case-by-case basis, but this is what a chatbot built with Chatfuel will generally consist of:

### Entry Points

As mentioned earlier, these are ways through which a customer can start a conversation with a chatbot.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6/xs_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6/sm_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6/md_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6/lg_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6/xl_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6.webp 602w" width="602" height="368" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6/original_how_do_chatbots_work_1_9b2f518bf6.webp" alt="entrypoints.jpg"><figcaption>Chatfuel Entry Points for Instagram chatbots.</figcaption></figure>

### Blocks

A block is a message or a configured block action. Flows, which we mentioned earlier, consist of a series of blocks.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38/xs_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38/sm_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38/md_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38/lg_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38/xl_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38.webp 565w" width="565" height="363" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38/original_how_do_chatbots_work_2_6a138f8e38.webp" alt="contentblocks.jpg"><figcaption>Chatfuel blocks for Instagram chatbots.</figcaption></figure>

### Actions

These are essentially the glue that hold your chatbot architecture together. You can use actions to build IF/THEN scenarios. Example: If a customer is stuck in a flow → Notify Admin via Email.

## AI chatbots: how they work

AI chatbots differ from rule-based chatbots due to their ability to understand human language. What makes this possible are algorithms such as natural language processing (NLP), which is a mix of linguistics, computer science, machine learning, and AI.

At Chatfuel, what gives our chatbots AI-like capabilities is our Keywords feature. The way it works is you can set up certain keyword groups and then what the chatbot should respond or do in response to those keywords. For example, let’s say you want the chatbot to send customers your phone number if they’re asking about it. Here’s what that would look like in the Keywords tab:

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4/xs_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4/sm_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4/md_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4/lg_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4/xl_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4.webp 1795w" width="1795" height="514" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4/original_how_do_chatbots_work_5_cd58c267c4.webp" alt="image.png"><figcaption>Setting up keywords and chatbot responses.</figcaption></figure>

Keywords can be refined by using one of the [3 settings](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/828883-keywords/): Similar to, Contains, or Matches.

With a mix of regular chatbot attributes plus the AI-like Keyword feature, you can provide your customers a hybrid experience that you can be sure they’ll be amazed by.

## AI chatbot algorithms

There are many types of algorithms out there, including those for AI chatbots. Chatfuel’s Keyword feature is also a type of algorithm — it uses synonyms, context, and past data to understand what exactly the customer wants.

Popular chatbot algorithms include the following:

-   Sequence to Sequence (seq2seq) model;

-   Natural Language Processing (NLP);

-   Long Short Term Memory (LSTM);

-   Recurrent neural networks (RNN);

-   Artificial neural networks (ANNs)

-   Pattern matching.

Each of the above aims to have chatbots seamlessly work in the background and empower the conversation. To the point that the customer feels like they are talking to a human.

This, of course, is no easy task. As simple as a conversation is to us, computers need to be trained to perform sentiment analysis and understand context, intent, and phrasing.

It’s undeniable that the invention of conversational bots behind businesses' DMs has made managing product requests and inquiries easier. Little wonder that 80% of companies have integrated chatbots into their communication systems, according to OUTGROW.

Although the apparent edge chatbots give businesses, only some use them. One of the major reasons is that many think they will have to break the bank to get one. But are they actually expensive?

**Short answer:** No, they are not. So, don’t be afraid of overbearing charges. You can get quality subscription-based chatbots for almost nothing. But note that coding a chatbot from scratch costs between [$5,000 to $150,000](https://hyperise.com/blog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-develop-a-chatbot#:~:text=The%20chatbot%20development%20price%20may,only%20for%20a%20simple%20bot.)[.](https://www.revechat.com/blog/chatbot-cost)

Like every other innovation, chatbots are priced according to their features. To build your chatbot from scratch, you would need between $5,000 to $150,000 for the code-based development charge. Their prices are high, especially those generated using Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning technologies. However, you can choose to subscribe to a software that offers this chat-automation solution too.

These subscription-based chatbots are less-expensive, as they only require modest recurring payments. They cost around $14.99 to $50 per month, and here are the primary factors that influence their pricing.

## Factors affecting chatbot cost

You might plan on developing a chatbot for a specific business need or only to integrate one into your business communication platforms for generic purposes. Below are the factors that will largely determine how much you will have to spend.

### 1\. Chatbot complexity

A large-scale business needs a chatbot system that is complex enough to handle all its customer support activities. In this case, the company might opt for from-scratch chatbots or pro-level chatbots, which offer premium features and more flows. For example, a distributing chatbot and responding to frequently asked questions (FAQs) are both chatbots but have different scopes.

A business that needs a distributing chatbot will have to pay more because in developing it, they had to integrate a payment gateway and an extra layer of security. For a simple FAQ chatbot, only a conversation pattern was needed. Features like full customization, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, unlimited active bots, etc., are of the essence for such businesses. Still, they just have to pay more to get them.

In this [article,](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-platforms-customer-service/) we compared top-rated chatbot platforms based on their features, allowing you to know what features you need and which platforms offer them at the most affordable cost.

### 2\. Chatbot type

Some chatbots only work with Instagram or Facebook Messenger, while others can work with both and more simultaneously. Therefore, expect to spend more if you choose a chatbot system or integration that can save you time on Whatsapp, Facebook, and Instagram. The reason is the central aspect affecting chatbot development costs.

A chatbot integrated into a business’s app or website is yet another type. For this chatbot, providing customer service and responding to FAQs are its most robust use cases. Such chatbots will cost more because of their extra integrations, which require chatbot setup and development, ongoing support and maintenance, and so on.

### 3\. Strength of data analysis

While businesses are leaving their customer interaction duties to the bare hands of chatbot technology, try to keep a humane feeling behind all direct messages. AI chatbots take a handful of complex data analysis abilities to learn how to interact the human way.

Chatbots can learn human communication patterns from previous chats through a solid machine-learning system and implement them in subsequent ones. This improves efficiency and originality with prospective customers but does not come for free. A chatbot’s strength of data analysis directly influences the chatbot development cost. Subsequently, it affects the price businesses will have to pay for it.

The chatbot development cost varies based on the developer and mode of development. There are three major players in chatbot development, and they are highlighted below alongside what it costs them to develop their chatbots.

### 1\. Chatbot development companies

Chatbot development companies are AI-producing agencies that build and design chat automation software for businesses and companies. The standard chatbot development cost from stand-alone agencies ranges from $6,000 to $13,000. Factors like the company’s strength in the industry, quality, location or region of operations, the value of their chatbot solutions, etc., influence their cost.

### 2\. Freelancers

Most freelancers charge according to their level of expertise, years of experience, and quality of service delivery. But the general range for freelance chatbot development is $1,000 to $5,000.

### 3\. Subscription-based chatbot software

Not all business owners can afford to build their chat automation system from scratch via coding. That is why companies like [Chatfuel](https://dashboard.chatfuel.com/) have long offered them a suitable alternative for their chat automation needs. The chatbot subscription plans by subscription-based chatbot development platforms typically range from $0 to $199 per month.

Chatfuel allows you to build chatbot systems according to your taste. For example, you can engage your customers in live chats, manage lead generation, collect and manage customers' data, re-engage your customers’ messages, segment your audience, and more.

All you need to do is register, subscribe to a monthly plan of your choice, and save more time to focus on the things that really matter. The great thing about subscription-based platforms is that they cost much less, and a platform like Chatfuel offers 50 free conversations to users.
