Shipping is a critical part of the buyer journey. It can be a source of either delight or frustration, affecting your customer's satisfaction and eventually your revenue.

### The key factors spoiling customers’ experience at the shipping stage

- **Uncertainty in the delivery process**, when customers are unsure about the location and status of their orders after they've been dispatched.

- **Inefficient tracking systems** which often require customers to actively check websites or emails.

- **Customer post-purchase anxiety**, when customers feel left in the dark about their order's delivery status.

The solution is to set up automated notifications that inform customers through WhatsApp whenever their shipment status changes.

### With automated notifications in place, you can:

- **Keep customers up-to-date** on their order status directly via WhatsApp, their frequently used messenger.

- **Improve post-purchase experience** by keeping customers updated and reducing anxiety associated with delivery waiting.

- **Build trust and confidence in your brand** by demonstrating transparency and reliability in the delivery process.

- **Reduce customer support queries** regarding delivery status, freeing up resources for more complex issues.

- **Use delivery updates to re-engage customers** by requesting feedback or promoting related products.

- **Increase customer satisfaction and foster brand loyalty** through regular and reliable communication.

Does that match your vision of a perfect customer experience at the shipping stage? Read on to learn how to set up WhatsApp shipping status updates in 2 steps.

> Before you start, make sure you’ve [connected your Shopify store to Chatfuel](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/8459149-how-to-connect-a-shopify-store) and [set up your checkout page](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/8459417-how-to-set-up-a-checkout-page-in-shopify). Otherwise, you won’t be able to send any notifications.

## Set up shipping status updates in 2 steps

Please note that each shipment status necessitates a separate template: **On its way, Out for delivery, Delivered, or Attempted delivery.** By following the steps below, you'll create a notification for the **On its way** shipping status. To cover the rest of the statuses, you’ll need to create corresponding templates following the same process.

### Step 1. Create a message template in WhatsApp Manager

Open [WhatsApp Manager](https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/home) and click on **Manage message templates.** You'll be redirected to Message templates.

The order confirmation message is an often underestimated touchpoint. Meanwhile, it’s a simple opportunity to increase customer loyalty and encourage them to come back for more purchases.

Here's how merchants can unintentionally ruin the post-purchase experience:

- **Send delayed order confirmations or don’t send them at all** leaving customers feeling uncertain after placing an order.

- **Communicate via inefficient communication channels** like email which customers might not check frequently.

To eliminate these factors negatively affecting buyer experience you can send automated order confirmations via WhatsApp.

## Your gains from automated order confirmations

- **Higher customer satisfaction and reduced post-purchase anxiety** due to instant order confirmation via WhatsApp.

- **Enhanced customer engagement** in the messenger that customers frequently use and check.

- **Increased trust and transparency** due to real-time updates on order processing and shipping.

- **Reduced customer service queries** related to order confirmation and status.

- **Opportunities for additional sales** by suggesting related products or offering discounts on future purchases.

- **Build long-term customer relationships and encourage customers to repeat business** by keeping them informed and engaged.

High Shopify website traffic doesn't necessarily yield a significant number of leads. Common mistakes that prevent converting visitors into leads include:

-   using inefficient, often ignored lead capture methods like email sign-up forms;

-   low engagement with website visitors, which leads to missed opportunities for conversion and customer relationship building;

- reliance on less personal and direct marketing channels, which can be ineffective in reaching and engaging customers.

You don’t have to lose opportunities and watch potential customers leave. Instead, try automating lead generation and engagement using Shopify + Chatfuel automation for WhatsApp.

Watch the video below on connecting your Shopify store to WhatsApp, and follow the [Chatfuel YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1_z5c5UnMJ0waRJ8Bx1cFg) for more insights and tutorials.

### Why automate lead generation and engagement?

- **Establish a more personal and direct line of communication** with potential customers by using WhatsApp, a widely used and familiar platform.

- **Enhance the effectiveness of your marketing efforts** by collecting WhatsApp numbers and sending personalized messages with promotions, updates, and exclusive offers.

- **Improve conversion rates** by engaging visitors through their preferred communication channel.

- **Enhance customer data collection,** enabling more targeted and effective marketing strategies.

- **Create an omnichannel marketing approach** by easily integrating WhatsApp communication into your broader marketing campaigns.

With automation, you can get more potential customers from your Shopify website. Read on to learn how to automate lead generation and engagement in 2 steps.

The post-purchase experience is a critical part of the buyer journey. With anticipation for their upcoming delivery, customers often send numerous inquiries about their order status, shipping details, and more. This stage can be a source of either delight or frustration, affecting your customer's satisfaction and eventually your revenue.

### The key factors spoiling the post-purchase experience

## Set up answers to post-purchase inquiries in two steps

Please note that each shipment status necessitates a separate template: **On its way, Out for delivery, Delivered, or Attempted delivery.** By following the steps below, you'll create a notification for the **On its way** shipping status. To cover the rest of the statuses, you’ll need to create corresponding templates following the same process.

### Step 1. Create a message template in WhatsApp Manager

Open [WhatsApp Manager](https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/home) and click on **Manage message templates.** You'll be redirected to Message templates.

## How to add WhatsApp integration for Shopify?

You'll need to install an app in the Shopify App Store. Choosing the right WhatsApp integration app for your Shopify store depends on what you're aiming for. Some popular options include Chatfuel, Tidio, Drift AI, etc.

In short, these apps put a live chat button on your Shopify store. When clicked, it directs customers straight to a WhatsApp chat with your business. Check out a comprehensive guide on [adding a live chat plugin to Shopify](https://chatfuel.com/blog/shopify-online-chat) for more details.

Certain apps, such as Chatfuel, come with the latest AI features. For example, you can add an AI sales agent that recommends products and assists customers with placing orders. Think of it as having a ChatGPT sales manager for your store.

[Chatfuel.com](http://Chatfuel.com) pricing example

It typically starts at about $30 per month. However, the cost increases based on your business's scale – specifically, how many customer chats you'll handle each month. Most services offer a basic plan with 500-1,000 chats monthly, and if you're aiming (or ready) to expand, you can go for custom pricing.

Additionally, there are Meta fees, because every service for WhatsApp Shopify integration uses WhatsApp Business API, check out the details [here](https://chatfuel.com/blog/whatsapp-business-pricing).

## Potential limitations

As good as they are for Shopify stores, these integrations do have a few drawbacks. Before deciding if WhatsApp integration is suitable for your business, consider the advantages of improved customer communication, along with potential snags like not being able to place an order within WhatsApp chat and the ongoing usage costs.

Here are some limitations to consider:

- **No in-app purchases.** Customers can't complete purchases in the WhatsApp chat, requiring them to go over to the Shopify store to finish up.

- **Privacy concerns.** Integrating WhatsApp requires sharing customer information, which might make some customers nervous about data privacy and compliance.

- **Costs**. You'll need to factor in the extra cost to your business budget.

- **Scalability.** While integration apps can handle growth, you might need to give some extra care to keep things smooth as your business gets bigger.

## FAQ

### How do I add WhatsApp button to Shopify?

You need to install a Shopify app that supports WhatsApp integration.

### Can I send order notifications and updates to customers via WhatsApp?

Yes, most WhatsApp integration apps for Shopify allow you to automatically send order notifications, shipping updates, and other relevant information to customers through WhatsApp.

### Can I use my personal WhatsApp number for integration?

No, you need to use a separate number from your personal one, which will be part of your WhatsApp business account. Here are a few key reasons why:

- WhatsApp's terms of service require using a business number/profile for commercial uses like integrating with a Shopify store. Personal accounts cannot be used.

- A business account provides more features tailored for commerce like business profiles, catalog sharing abilities, etc. that aren't available on personal accounts.

- Keeping business communications separate from personal messaging allows you to easily manage all customer conversations from one centralized business account.

### 1\. What's it like being a product designer at Chatfuel?

Sometimes, I feel like a cool paratrooper, zipping from one project to the next while I’m expected to quickly comprehend tasks and complete them efficiently. Once in a while, it’s hard to clear my mind and switch from projects I've wrapped up, but the kudos I get totally make it worth it. In a nutshell, it's a pretty dynamic role.

### 2\. What are the primary challenges in product design today, and how do you tackle them?

First off, simply creating a well-functioning product is not enough anymore. It's also necessary to build an emotional connection with customers. While faceless corporate systems may excel in functionality, loyalty is won by those who have a recognizable style, tone of voice, and engaging communication. The products we often consider cool always offer a little extra something: fun animation when a user finishes a task, a sweet card from the person who packed your order, or a real, heartfelt “sorry” when something goes wrong. Caring and showing care for the customers is the key to getting people to remember you and come back for more.

Next up, I observe the evolution of AI and the fluctuating hype around it and identify practical, real-world benefits it may offer. I'm also all ears when it comes to discussion of legal norms in the AI field. This could potentially cause an increase in the cost of human labor and, contrary to predictions of widespread job losses, could actually reinforce the role of the designer.

### 3\. What features of Chatfuel do you think are the most unique and appealing to users?

Besides the functionality, it’s definitely our rockstar support team. Plus, we're making great strides in branding and communication lately. We’re also almost done with some technical improvements getting in the way of us doing awesome stuff, and I'm pretty pumped about all the exciting things we’re about to do.

### 4\. What principles do you follow when interacting with other team members?

The first and most important rule is to fulfill your commitments by the specified deadline. If I’m falling behind, I make sure to give a heads-up in advance.

The second point is to not be scared to have a discussion. We're all here to do our best and figure out the best way forward, right? So, we must look at the problem we’re trying to solve from every angle and talk it out.

The third is to show appreciation to your teammates for their help and good work.

### 5\. How do you keep growing in your career? Any tips for staying in the loop with the latest industry trends and approaches?

Product design and its levels have become such vague concepts that the criteria for professional advancement are similarly unclear. If you were to ask ten different companies why they need product designers and how the responsibilities vary between levels, you'd end up with a confusing mix of responses.

First, I aim to expand my expertise horizontally and acquire more related skills. For example, to be able to spot the difference between good and not-so-good UI text and suggest ways to make it better, come up with an idea of how things can be put together in layout or data architecture, or run user tests.

Secondly, I observe the digital products I use daily, noting their direction and the engaging mechanics they employ. I particularly enjoy dissecting products that irritate me to understand what exactly might have gone wrong and how it could have been avoided.

And thirdly, I'm keeping an eye out for the emergence of fundamentally new user interfaces and their practical implications in helping people solve their daily tasks.

### 6\. How do you manage your resources, hobbies, and work-life balance amidst a busy schedule? Any particular strategy for energy replenishment?

My recipe for balance includes therapy, large personal projects, friendships, and sports. It's all about discipline, making sure I don't slack off in any part of my life. Since motivation can fluctuate, it's super important to be able to give myself that extra nudge to hit the gym, shut the laptop after work, and go out for an art show. I remind myself that chill time is a must if I want to stay productive.

### 7\. How do you interpret corporate values, and how do they influence your day-to-day work?

I'm not particularly interested in slogans, what really gets me going is their practical implications. Can I do my job and pursue my ambitions? Are the team's goals clear and do their their actions align? Am I getting a fair shake for my work and do I feel supported? So, unless the slogans aren’t telling us to do bad stuff, they don't bother me one bit.

### 8\. What excites you the most about our company?

My teammates.

### 9\. What advice would you give new hires for a smoother integration into our company culture?

Remain true to yourself, keep an open mind, try to have fun, and always do your best.

A chatbot can answer frequently asked questions, provide order and shipping updates, gather feedback, and do many other things. It also contributes to the better buyer journey by enabling instant support.

### 2\. Set up abandoned cart recovery

On average, 7 out of 10 carts are abandoned. This happens for a variety of reasons, but the main thing is that with the help of Shopify automations, some potential buyers can still be brought to payment. For example, with the help of re-engagement messages reminding about a forgotten purchase.

### 3\. Offer personalized product recommendations

You can increase the average check and upsell with automated personalized recommendations. Here's how it happens: AI analyzes the items viewed, added to the cart, or purchased by a customer. It also analyses time spent on product pages. Based on this data, it suggests products that the customer might like.
