What is a greeting?
In conversational AI and chatbots, a greeting is the initial message or prompt that starts a conversation with a user.
The greeting sets the tone and provides context for the interaction. It lets the user know they are talking to an AI assistant or chatbot and gets the dialogue going.
A good greeting accomplishes a few key things:
- It's friendly and conversational to establish rapport.
- It introduces who/what the chatbot is.
- It prompts the user on how to start the conversation.
More advanced chatbots may customize their greetings based on factors like the time of day, the user's profile/history, or the channel they came through.
