Our story
From the first chatbots on Messenger to agentic infrastructure and tools for developers.
- 2015
Chatfuel is founded
The top two most downloaded apps in the world are for messaging. Facebook has just released their messaging API, and the way we all do business online is about to change. We created Chatfuel to be the easiest way for brands to take advantage of conversational commerce on social media. The founding team has been accepted to the top startup accelerator in the world: Y Combinator.
- 2016
Y Combinator and 120,000 bots
Chatfuel joins Y Combinator’s Winter 2016 batch. By March, people have built more than 120,000 bots on Chatfuel that serve over five million users. At F8, TechCrunch launches its own Messenger bot, built with Chatfuel.
- 2021
Instagram joins Chatfuel
We launch Instagram automation. Businesses can now answer Instagram DMs automatically with the same no-code tools they use on Messenger.
- 2022
AI agents arrive
Our no-code platform for building Messenger and Instagram chatbots now fuels over a billion conversations each month. Our tech empowers hundreds of thousands of businesses to connect with customers via chat automation—from small, local businesses to major brands like Adidas and Levi’s.
This year we also launch AI agents. Instead of following fixed scripts, they understand what customers ask and answer in their own words.
Automation is the future when it comes to growing a business. At Chatfuel, we’re on a mission to put that technology in the hands of all business owners, everywhere.
- 2023
WhatsApp joins Chatfuel
Chatfuel comes to WhatsApp. Businesses can now run the same automation and AI agents on the official WhatsApp Business API, right where their customers chat every day.
- 2024
TikTok comes on board
We add TikTok. Brands can reply to TikTok messages automatically and turn video views into conversations and sales.
- 2025
Full move to Agentic Infrastructure
Chatfuel completes its move to Agentic Infrastructure. The whole platform now runs on AI agents that reply, qualify leads, book appointments and follow up on every channel on their own.
- 2026
SDK and MCP for developers
We launch the Chatfuel SDK for developers and an MCP server. Developers can build their own products on top of Chatfuel, and AI assistants can connect to it through the Model Context Protocol.
