You probably have heard the old saying *first impressions last*. When it comes to business, this formula works too. Consumers with positive first impressions are more likely to select the innovation than consumers with neutral or negative impressions. So, you only have one opportunity to make a great first impression with customers.

At the offline store, customers' first impression can base on your window displays or the sales manager greeting them. It is the first moment the consumer is reaching out to you. And, if no one is there to greet and assist them, that first impression may be the last. And potential customers will leave your store and probably never come back.

Nowadays, more people prefer online shopping over offline. According to [Meta’s studies](https://www.facebook.com/business/news/insights/understanding-the-shopping-journey-of-the-connected-consumer), 55% of users buy products online, and 54% of shoppers use Messenger for purchasing online. That makes each interaction with your potential customer crucially important. Users' first impression of your businesses might depend on the very first message they receive from you. In this article, you’ll learn how to create an engaging Welcome Message for your Facebook Messenger and see some inspiring examples.

## What is a chatbot Welcome Message

Welcome Message is the first message your Facebook chatbot sends to users. It generally includes a warm greeting, basic information about your business, and options to engage and continue the conversation. It is similar to a website homepage: the first place a prospect lands when they want to learn more about your brand and what you have to offer.

To set up a Facebook welcome message, you can use their built-in feature, [Instant Replies](https://www.facebook.com/help/1615627532020480). It allows plain-text responses. While this option works for many businesses, the functionalities of Chatfuel’s Welcome Message have the power to be more engaging. For example, you can use exciting media content and make conversations with your customers more interactive by using buttons.

## What you can do with Welcome Message

### Greet your prospectives

For Chatfuel bots, you can automatically import each Facebook user’s publicly available profile information. That way, your bot can address each person by name. To do this, type two open brackets (“{{”) inside a text block. For example, you could have your bot say, “Hi, {{first name}}! 👋”.

### Introduce your brand and products

Your bot can briefly [introduce itself](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-names) and give users an idea of how it can help them. For example, it could say: “I’m Gigi, the personal shopping bot for this store. I’m here to help you find your perfect pair of jeans”.

### Guide your clients

You can ask users a question and let them answer by clicking on a button. For example, in a [restaurant chatbot](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbots-for-restaurants), such buttons could be Reserve a table or Schedule Now.

### Let users pick a language

With Welcome Message, you can let users choose the bot’s language by clicking buttons. Read more about adding buttons and other media assets to your automation [here](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/925465-media-assets).

## How to create a Welcome Message

You can send different greeting messages depending on the way users start a conversation with your bot. For example, they can enter your bot after commenting on your posts or through Facebook Ads with Messenger destination. Based on it, you’ll have to choose an [Entry Point](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/5571042-entry-points) later.

### To get started

1. Go to Automation → Flows tab.

2. Press **+** on the right. Then select Add Messenger flow from the list.

3. Choose an Entry Point. It will appear under the first block in your flow (starting point). Now you have two blocks.

4. Use the starting point block to create a Welcome Message. Press **+** Add Content to set it up. There you’ll see two options: **Content Blocks** and **Collect User Data**.

### Content Blocks

With Content Blocks, you can make users’ experiences interactive and efficient. There are multiple options:

*Text + Buttons* lets you create a text message and a button selection to greet and guide users. The buttons can be customized, too. For example, you can edit button names and actions after users press each button: continue the flow, call phone, open URL, or Schedule Calendly event. To make it work, make sure that all buttons lead to a block, so the users won’t get in a dead-end after clicking them.

*Typing animation* lets you make a conversation with your bot look more natural to users.

*Media content* (images, your product gallery, audio or video files) lets you can make your automation attractive and informative.

### Collect User Data

It is the second option in the **+** Add Content section of the starting point (and other blocks). If you wish to get users' contact information right away, you can use it from the Welcome Message. You can collect their answers, emails, phones, date and time info.

### To set up and test

When you set up an Entry Point, you’ll have to select the Get Started button or FAQs to greet and assist users. Note that you’ll have to connect them to the following blocks to activate these options. That way, users will move to the next point of the conversation. You can choose the desired block to appear to users after pressing a button. For example, you can create a Product Gallery Content Block to show your catalog or menu.

Before launching, make sure you activate the Entry Point. To check if it works as you want it to, use the option Test this flow. Then, you can see the whole path of your automation from the users’ perspective and fix it if needed. That way, you can create an outstanding Welcome Message and give all consumers a positive first impression.

## Chatbot Welcome Message examples

Let’s look at some Facebook Messenger greeting examples from our clients. Then, you can use them as an inspiration for your Welcome Message.

## Tips

### Keep it clear

We recommend using easy-to-read sentences that get right to the point. The users will get as brief info about your brand and products in the conversation as possible. Make sure that your text doesn’t have spelling errors and grammar mistakes. Such details can ruin the perception of your business.

### Add human-like spirit

To engage users, make the conversation with your chatbot look natural. You can use typing animation to pace the conversation and give users time to read the messages. Also, you can use emoji if it’s appropriate for your audience. Keep the welcoming tone that can help put users at ease — especially if they’re new to bots.

### Make it credible

Create your greeting message to look and sound professional. Choose visual and text content that is high-quality, engaging, and evoke an emotional response that reinforces your brand.

How to create the most effective chatbot Welcome Message

Banks and other businesses in the finance industry usually have large customer bases. That means providing personalized, helpful guidance to prospects and clients at scale can be a challenge. That’s why Facebook Messenger chatbots for banking have become so popular. Chatbots can help improve and customize the user experience at every stage, saving banks and finance brands time and money in the process.

## Why bots are ideal for banking and finance brands

Conversational banking is the new trend in the industry. It makes complex or time-consuming financial topics and tasks more accessible for prospects and customers. Plus, it allows users to complete certain routine tasks without help from a human agent. Not only does this mean they receive faster service, but also that human support staff can save time, too.

Plus, when conversational banking takes place in Messenger, the chat history is saved. This means that users can always go back and review information shared with them in the past, and that human agents can view a user’s previous chats with the bot later, for context.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/xs_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/sm_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/md_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/lg_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/xl_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 2080w" width="2080" height="1168" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/original_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp" alt="chatbot for banks"><figcaption>Chatbots can save banking businesses time and money, while streamlining the user experience.</figcaption></figure>

Chatbots are also easier to build and implement than a full, separate banking app. Since chatbots exist in Facebook Messenger, they don’t require a team of developers and months of time to implement. There’s no coding knowledge required to use Chatfuel, and you can build your first bot in an afternoon. Plus, with 1.3 billion users on Messenger, it’s safe to say that a large portion of any business’s clientele is already familiar with the interface.

A bot doesn’t have to have to replace a full digital banking app though. Many finance-related businesses prefer to design a bot for one topic or initiative, in addition to their main, separate app. There are banks that made bots in Chatfuel specifically for information, advice, and promotions related to their investment services. Anything related to transfers, bill pay, loans, or credit cards still remains in their full app.

## What a chatbot can do for a business in the finance industry

The functions of a finance or banking chatbot are nearly endless. A few of the most helpful applications include:

- **Automated, personalized customer support, 24/7.** For routine questions and tasks, customers no longer have to visit a branch, stand by on hold, or wait for business hours. Chatbots are available to provide the same level of helpful, [personalized customer service](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-for-customer-service) every time, on demand.

- **Advice and information.** A Messenger bot is a great tool for giving out details about a brand’s services, products, or locations. It could share blog posts with money-saving tips or financial planning advice, offer details about a new credit card, or let users locate their nearest branch or ATM.

- **Lead generation and qualification.** There are several effective methods to bring new users to your bot. You can [link your bot to Facebook ad](https://chatfuel.com/blog/create-click-to-messenger-ads-to-drive-traffic-to-your-bot), incorporate a [chatbot window on your website](https://chatfuel.com/blog/add-a-messenger-chatbot-to-your-website), or even set up a feature to acquire bot users from comments on one of your Facebook page posts. (You can do all of the above with Entry Points!) Once there, your bot can ask users questions to qualify them. For example, you could set up a Facebook ad about your bank’s business loan services, and then ask users who click through questions about the size and type of their business. If they qualify, your bot can gather their information for a member of your team to contact later, or have them [book an in-person appointment](https://youtu.be/9jGuWa1sgAw) through the bot.

- **Audience segmentation.** You can set your bot to apply certain tags, called user attributes, to users based on their actions or responses. This way, your chatbot can act as a mini-CRM, allowing you to learn more about your audience and do specific retargeting in the future. For example, you could tag all users you acquired from comments on a post about your new credit card, and send them an offer related to that topic in the future, too.

- **Customer feedback collection.** Bots make it easy to gather feedback from your users. Customers generally have low motivation to complete a static email survey about a bank. But an engaging quiz in an instant, conversational format via chatbot will see much higher completion rates.

- **Multi-location support.** Banks or finance companies with multiple branches don’t need to create separate bots for each one.

## Tips for building a banking chatbot

To build an effective banking chatbot for your finance business, here are some tips:

1. **Distinguish between your bot and human agents.** It’s crucial to make sure users know when they’re interacting with a chatbot. Have your bot introduce itself and share a bit about what it can do in the [Welcome Message](https://chatfuel.com/blog/welcome-message-best-practices). If, at any point, you choose to have a [human take over the conversation](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/849315-live-chat), let the user know as well. Making this information clear is a great way to show transparency, build trust, and manage user expectations.

2. **Select a name and persona.** [Choose your bot’s name](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-names) and persona carefully. Banking and finance inevitably involve sensitive user information, so you don’t want a bot that comes off as too casual or easygoing. Build one that interacts in a friendly but professional manner. You want users to feel welcome, yet confident that your bot is an authority and will handle their information responsibly.

3. **Be mindful of security.** If your banking chatbot handles any kind of sensitive user information, you must have the appropriate security measures in place. Your bot should inform users of these measures as well, so they feel confident interacting with it. For example, [Surfshark](https://surfshark.com/), a VPN service, clearly informs users that their product will ensure that “your location is private and your sensitive data is secure, at all times.”

4. **Start small.** Bots have lots of potential uses for businesses in the finance and banking sector. At the beginning though, it’s best to focus on just one. Concentrate on your most common or pressing customer pain point, and build a bot to mitigate it. Once you’ve proven that your bot has enhanced the user experience, you can work on expanding its functionalities.

5. **Test your bot.** Once you’ve built the first version of your bot, invite colleagues or a small focus group to test it before you release to your entire audience. As these users interact with your bot, track the analytics to see how it’s performing. Check and see if there’s anywhere your bot or users get stuck, and make adjustments as needed. Once you’ve gathered feedback and made your changes, you can launch your Facebook bot to a wider audience.

## Finance-bot success stories from Chatfuel clients

First Valley Bank is a Philippines-based company in the banking industry that provides information about their business via a Chatfuel bot. Their Messenger chatbot:

-   offers money-saving tips;

-   has a branch locator tool;

- lets users interested in loans or a new account to share their contact information, so a bank representative can follow up later.

Banks are a great use case for Facebook chatbots, but so are financial planning and wealth management firms, money-management apps and influencers, loan companies, and money-transfer services, to name a few.

EasyDebit Philippines is another great example of a finance-related business who serves its users with a well-designed Chatfuel bot. EasyDebit allows customers to use their debit card to withdraw cash and make payments through local merchants, rather than having to travel to an ATM. They’ve built a simple bot that gives users basic information about their services, and offers answers to FAQs.

## Bank on a bot for your brand’s success

Ready to take your banking or finance business to the next level? It’s time you explored the world of Facebook Messenger chatbots. The function of Chatfuel is to make it easy for businesses like yours to build powerful no-code chatbots. To get started, [sign up for your free account](https://dashboard.chatfuel.com) today.

Did you know chatbots can help improve the user experience at every stage, saving banks and finance brands time and money in the process?

Why any banking or finance business needs a chatbot

From Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa to C-3PO and WALL-E, robots are real, and features have names. When it comes to automation, the same rule applies. Some businesses simply use their company title as their bot’s name. Read on for our top tips and key considerations if you wonder how to create a unique name for your chatbot.

## Why unique bot name matters

Distinctive and unique names help companies [stand out from the crowd](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/262850863_Naming_businesses_Names_as_drivers_of_brand_value). However, your first priority should be creating a [functional bot](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-for-customer-service) to assist users in solving a problem or answering their questions. A great name can make your bot:

- **Approachable.** Chatbots are still a relatively new technology, so pick a name that feels personable instead of intimidating. For example, Siri sounds more warm and friendly than Apple Smartphone Robot. Chatbot’s name should welcome and even intrigue users.
- **Memorable.** If customers are looking for your bot in their inbox, a unique name will make it easier to find. For example, a bot that offers tips and advice on dog training can be easily found as BarkBot rather than Dog Obedience Bot.

## Four different ways to name your bot

The type you select depends on your industry, the tone of voice of your business, the purpose of your bot, and how you want customers to see your brand. Here are a few common categories of chatbot names:

1. **A human name,** like Lisa or Michael. These names are often suitable for banking, tax, or medical services. They are formal and don’t distract from the topic at hand.
2. **A robot name,** like Bolt or Alpha, clarifies that the user is chatting with a non-human being, which can help avoid any confusion. You might consider a robot name if you’re in an industry like tech, education, or finance.
3. **A descriptive name,** like Calorie-TrackBot, helps users build healthy eating habits or Book Club Bot for one that offers book recommendations. The advantage of this naming style is that the user already understands the bot’s purpose before interacting with it. Although these names aren’t always as personable and approachable, their clarity may appeal to some users.
4. **A clever name,** like Penny for a personal-finance advice chatbot or PAM as a name for a bot that provides **P**rayer **A**nd **M**editation tips. This type of chatbot name is best for businesses in the travel, fitness, food, or beauty industries. A clever name ensures that your bot stands out and can make your brand and industry more approachable.

## How to choose good bot name

Although it’s possible to change your chatbot’s name, it’s best to pick a great one the first time so you don’t have to confuse users by updating it later. Keep these tips in mind as you make your choice:

- **Reflect your brand voice.** Your bot’s name and persona should [match your brand voice](https://chatfuel.com/blog/craft-a-brand-voice-that-converts) or how your business communicates typically with prospects and customers. Suppose your blog, social media pages, and customer support messages are full of puns and emojis. In that case, it makes sense to give your automation a clever name and a casual persona. If not, you lose consistency, decrease brand recognition, and might confuse your users.
- **Descriptive, but not dull.** Give your Facebook chatbot a name that gives a clue about its function but is not too descriptive and dry. For example, Travel Deals and Booking Bot isn’t very engaging. Instead, consider names like Dr.Travel or Global Adventure Bot to instantly show the idea and not tell about the concept.
- **Have your bot introduce itself.** If you give your bot a human-like name, users might think they’re dealing with a human. Make your bot let users know it’s a bot to avoid it. Chatfuel’s [handover protocol](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/2912153-conversation-handover) automatically notifies the users when a human agent takes over for your chatbot at any point. That way, users always know whom they’re chatting with.

How to choose the best chatbot name for your business

The demand for language-learning tools and solutions is high because of globalization and international businesses. As a result, any resource simplifies the language-learning process and is a welcome addition to the market. One innovative tool that’s particularly well-suited for this objective is a chatbot.

To illustrate how well Facebook automation can help students pick up a new language, we spoke with Sarah Bromley, who built a bot called Go Correct to help students learn English. It has helped over 2,000 users practice their English skills, and it also won an award from the British council for digital innovation in language teaching. We asked Sarah to share her experience.

## Why bots are a powerful language-learning solution

If it were easy to learn a new language by simply reading a textbook, everyone would be doing it. However, most students are more successful when an instructor personalizes the lessons and teaches them one-on-one or in a group. With language bots, students receive customized tuition, but on their schedule and at their own pace.

“Native speakers are vital for language learning, but interaction with real humans can be difficult or expensive to arrange. If a chatbot designed to behave like a human could provide that interaction for free and on-demand, this would be hugely beneficial to a language learner, ” explains Sarah.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/xs_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/sm_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/md_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/lg_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/xl_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 1620w" width="1620" height="911" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/original_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp" alt="go correct chatbot"><figcaption>The Go Correct bot helps students learn English</figcaption></figure>

Before building a bot, Sarah “piloted a product version, just by manually sending messages on WhatsApp” to her students. She already knew that advanced language learners “would like a chance to practice every day by writing a short text and having a native speaker correct it.”

So, although this method allowed her to offer her students that personalized, one-on-one element, Sarah knew that automating the process would make things far easier for everyone. So now, she uses the bot instead to “provide quick and easy access to snack-sized practice or instant answers, ” available to the students at any time.

Chatbots work so well for language learning because they automate communication on Facebook Messenger. “These days, everyone is using messaging apps. So it makes sense that regular study or practice is ideal for delivering through a chatbot, ” Sarah tells us. In addition, bringing this new learning experience to a familiar app is fun and exciting for users. They’re “generally intrigued and delighted by automation, ” says Sarah. She shared student feedback with us:

## Tips for building a bot for your language-learning business

[A bot can benefit your business](https://chatfuel.com/blog/top-9-reasons-your-business-needs-a-chatbot), whether you run a language course or provide one-on-one teaching to students. The Chatfuel platform is free and easy to use. Before building your automation, take a look at our best tips:

1. **Humanize your bot.** You can give it [a name and persona](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-names) to make it user-friendly and welcoming to users. Sarah also invited human instructors: “My bot sends daily questions, and a human checks and corrects the students’ answers.”

2. **Engage students**. Combine lessons and exercises with interactive quizzes. Your bot can share photos, videos, and GIFs. It’s an effective way to make the experience even more captivating for users.

3. **Try sequences.** “I chose Chatfuel to build my bot because it’s quick, free, and easy. The key feature I use sequences”, shares Sarah. This feature lets your bot send messages to particular user segments at specific intervals, similar to an email drip campaign. For example, you could have it send a lesson about food-related vocabulary in Spanish on day one, a quiz on that vocabulary on day two, and a recipe for a Spanish dish as soon as it completes both items.

4. **Consider building a multilingual bot.** Your students aren’t the only ones who can learn to speak multiple languages. You can reach and engage even more potential users with a [multilingual bot](https://chatfuel.com/blog/create-a-multilingual-chatbot).

If your business sells a product or service online, odds are your customers come from more countries than just the one you’re based in. If your chatbot, which helps users with everything from making a purchase to customer support, only speaks English, you could be alienating entire prospect segments.

[Only about 7.5%](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2015/04/23/the-worlds-languages-in-7-maps-and-charts/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.430d10df9128) of the world’s population consider English to be their native language. Even those who speak it as a second language still always feel most comfortable conversing in their native language.

This is especially true when there’s a purchase—an exchange of their hard-earned money involved. If you want to make your business more accessible and welcoming to new markets around the world, a multilingual Messenger chatbot is a highly effective solution.

## What a multilingual chatbot can do for your business

Building a multilingual bot is a smart move for any business looking to reach customers beyond the English-speaking countries. Chatbots that can converse in multiple languages will help you:

### Improve the customer experience

**‍**A survey of online shoppers across ten countries found that 75% of them want to make purchases in their own language, or they won’t want to make the purchase at all. So even a user who speaks English as a second language will enjoy a quicker and easier interaction with your brand if it can be in their native language instead.

### Grow your customer base

**‍**Imagine all the prospects in the world who might be interested in your brand but don’t speak English. With a multilingual bot, you’re now able to reach them to showcase your products or services, answer questions, and move them down the sales funnel. A polyglot bot can give you the opportunity to expand your customer base exponentially.

### Stand out from the competition

**‍**A bot that speaks a customer’s preferred language will help them feel understood, and will be able to provide better service all around. This kind of focus on the quality of user experience will give you a major competitive advantage with an international audience. If a prospect has the choice between your company, which effortlessly speaks their language, and a competitor that only speaks English, your brand is far more likely to be the one they go with.

### Save time, energy, and resources

**‍**Training your human staff in every possible language of your prospects is obviously not feasible.Creating a multilingual chatbot instead is a far simpler and more cost-effective way to handle a multilingual customer base, in every aspect — from marketing and sales to support.

## How to build a multi-language bot

The thought of equipping your chatbot to speak multiple languages may seem intimidating, especially if you don’t speak those languages yourself. The good news: You can do it with Chatfuel in just four steps.

At first, building a separate bot for each different language may seem like the best solution. But in reality, having multiple bots in your page’s inbox will only create confusion for you and your users. Instead, creating multiple flows (one flow for each language) within the same Messenger bot is the best option. To do this in Chatfuel, follow these instructions:

1. **Add text**. We recommend creating your entire bot flow (whatever content you’ll want to have available in multiple languages) with text in English.

2. **Duplicate that flow**. Then, duplicate the flow you just created. Replace the English text with text you’ve translated into another language. Repeat this process for as many languages as you need the flow to be available in.

3. **Set up your persistent menu**. Set it up in as many different languages as you like. To do this, go to the Configure tab in Chatfuel and use the Localization feature.

4. **Direct users to the right language**. One way to do this is to use the {{locale}} attribute so your bot will automatically detect the user’s default language on Facebook. If you want to let them choose on their own, you can give them a choice using either Buttons or Quick Replies.

With the {{locale}} attribute, you’d need to use the Condition plugin for each of the languages you want to use. From there on, you can guide them into the Flow according to the specific language.

<figure><img width="1920" height="1080" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/create_a_multilingual_chatbot_1_68afbb3168/create_a_multilingual_chatbot_1_68afbb3168.gif" alt="localization.gif"><figcaption>Using Buttons or the Condition Plugin for localizing your flow.</figcaption></figure>

However, this method doesn’t take their geographic location into account. Instead, we recommend adjusting your bot’s [Welcome Message](https://chatfuel.com/blog/welcome-message-best-practices) so it will ask users to select their preferred language with buttons or quick replies. Then have each of those options lead to the flow in the corresponding language.

From there, all messages from your bot to that user will appear in the language they chose.

One final note: If you set your bot up in multiple languages, remember that the default phrases for any plugins you may be using, like the Live Chat plugin, the Share Location plugin, or User Input plugin, must be in one language only.

Set up your bot in as many languages as you like using the Localization feature.

## Make your multi-language chatbot even smarter

Languages are full of subtleties and depend a lot on cultural context. So if your Facebook bot’s responses depend only on trigger words in user responses, it could lead to a misunderstanding.

For example, this type of Messenger bot wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a user asking 'What is your refund policy?' and one saying 'Track my refund.' They both use the keyword ‘refund.’

A basic keyword-based chatbot wouldn’t be able to understand any context beyond that. It would send them both the same reply, which would be frustrating and unhelpful to one of the two customers.

If you are concerned about these types of problems with your multilingual chatbot, your best option is to integrate AI that can learn to understand the intent behind a user’s message and respond accordingly. To do this, you can use Blocks to integrate two other tools into your Chatfuel bot:

1. **Dialogflow**. A conversational AI from Google that will help your bot better understand the context of user messages. A chatbot response that is triggered by a keyword might miss out on the user’s actual intent.

However, Dialogflow AI will help your bot take nuances of language and meaning into account to provide more accurate replies.

2. **Janis.AI**. A framework for building Dialogflow-enhanced Chatfuel bots. Janis also comes with an assistant in Slack, which helps you manage and monitor how your AI is learning and responding to users.

AI will also help a bot know what to do if a user responds with slang, idioms, misspellings, or ‘internet speak’ in another language. Your bot will be able to better understand the intent behind the user’s message so it can provide more accurate, helpful assistance.

To give your bot this ability, you’ll need to integrate Dialogflow into Chatfuel, and then set up Janis to manage it. You can follow [these instructions](https://medium.com/janis/how-to-make-your-chatfuel-bots-smarter-faster-with-dialogflow-ec0d0bc184d4), or watch the video above to learn how. Don’t forget that the general language setting when setting up your bot’s AI has to be in one language only.

How to create a multilingual chatbot

Travel is more accessible to more people now than at any other time in history. Though the travel industry is growing exponentially to keep up with demand, there’s also more competition than ever. If you have a business in this field and you’re looking for a way to boost sales, save time, and stand out from the crowd, it’s time you considered a Facebook Messenger chatbot.

## Why a chatbot is such an effective tool for travel businesses

People are already accustomed to booking trips on their mobile devices, but they typically use a host of different travel apps and websites to get it done. With a bot, you can simplify this process by bringing it all to one place: Facebook Messenger, an app most users are already familiar with.

Although chatbots aren’t designed to completely replace human agents, they can be equipped to handle many tasks as well as a regular employee could. A chatbot can essentially act as a virtual travel agent, offering personalized suggestions based on the user’s preferences, [answering FAQs](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-for-customer-service/), and even accepting bookings and making reservations. If a bot ever encounters a situation it’s not equipped to handle, it can easily pass off the inquiry to a human agent. Or, you can build an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that can handle most, if not all, questions from users.

Bots for airlines, train lines, hotels, and rental car agencies can make recommendations, show pricing, and accept bookings and payments. Travel agencies and tour companies can put together entire trip packages for a user simply by asking them a few questions about their preferences. Whatever aspect of travel your business covers, it can be handled or at least helped in some way by a Facebook bot.

Plus, a chatbot can provide this helpful, personalized service on demand, 24/7. If a user is in another time zone or doing their travel booking outside business hours, they can still get information or make reservations with your business via your bot. This constant availability shows customers you have their convenience in mind—and it saves you and your team time and money, too.

## What a bot can do for your travel company

- **Simplify the user experience**. A [report](http://www.travelmarketreport.com/articles/Consumers-Visit-38-Sites-Before-Booking-Expedia-Says) by Expedia says that travelers visit 38 different websites on average before booking a trip. If your travel company can decrease this number, you’ll be that much more valuable and unique. A travel chatbot can be equipped to help users with all kinds of different travel-related tasks, and all from the same, familiar Messenger app.

- **Make recommendations.** If you’re a travel organizer or agency, a bot can take over a major portion of your workload. By asking simple questions in a humanlike, conversational style, your bot can figure out what the user is looking for in a trip and make helpful recommendations—just like a personal travel assistant. Based on the prospect’s preferences for budget, type of destination, etc., a bot can almost instantly return suggestions for a holiday that meets their needs. Or, for hotels, car rental agencies, cruises, or travel insurance, your bot could bring up the best matches for a particular destination with all the relevant information, making it easy for the user to view and compare pricing and details of each without visiting multiple websites or pages.

- **Accept bookings and payments.** A chatbot for your travel business can even be equipped to take a customer through the sales funnel and close a deal. Bots can be designed to book airline tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, tours, and more right within the Messenger app. The user won’t have to download a separate app, fill out a cumbersome web form, or create an account on a new site. They can simply enter their credit card information into Messenger one time, and it’ll be saved there for future, seamless transactions.

- **Share inspiration and tips.** It’s not only travel-booking agencies or sites that can benefit from a bot. Even travel bloggers and [influencers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRhzwkZLAxg) can use them to share their content in a more engaging, personalized way. For example, if a user asked for packing advice or tips on travel to Paris, the bot can easily suggest any/all blog content you have related to that subject.

- **Provide customer care**. Chatbots in the travel industry can can be equipped to deal with all kinds of routine issues. This means that customers can get solutions to many types of problems, day or night, without having to look up a support phone number, wait on hold, or call back during business hours. For example, your chatbot could assist users in submitting a travel insurance claim, rebooking a missed flight, or changing a hotel reservation, all through a few simple steps within Messenger. Whatever common issues your customer support team normally deals with can likely be handled by a bot.

## Tips for supercharging your travel bot with Chatfuel

The Chatfuel platform is packed with useful features to help your business get the most out of a chatbot. Make sure to take advantage of these when you build your Messenger travel bot:

1. **Acquire Users from Comments.** Once you have your travel bot built, you’ll want to get as many users to it as possible. One great way to do this is through our [Acquire Users from Comments](https://chatfuel.com/blog/how-to-turn-facebook-post-commenters-into-customers/) feature. You can send a welcome message to anyone who comments on your Facebook page posts, or to anyone whose comment includes a specific keyword. For example, your bot could send an introductory message about your Barcelona trip package to any user whose comment on your post (s) includes the word “Spain”. It’s a great way bring users who are already interacting with you on your page to your bot.

2. **Linking Facebook ads to your bot.** Is your travel business already advertising on Facebook? Great! Once you have a well-built chatbot, you can [run click-to-Messenger ads](https://chatfuel.com/blog/create-click-to-messenger-ads-to-drive-traffic-to-your-bot/) that will send users who click right to your bot.

3. **Synced Cloning.** If your travel-related business has multiple locations, like a hotel or city tour company, Chatfuel’s Synced Cloning feature will save you lots of time. If you want to change an aspect of your bot that relates to all your locations, you don’t have to update each one individually. Instead, you can update a master bot and instantly apply the changes to all the others. That way, you can keep the flow and feel of your bots consistent with just a few clicks.

What Travel Businesses Achieve with Chatbots

Here at Chatfuel, we love to talk about how Messenger chatbots can benefit your business. We’ve talked about bots for brands in the [beauty space](https://chatfuel.com/blog/messenger-chatbot-for-salon-or-beauty-business), real estate, and even in the [agriculture industry](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbots-for-farmers-and-agriculture-businesses). Today, however, we’re digging into a use case that’s even closer to home: **a chatbot for your very own personal brand**.

## How personal Messenger bots work

Think of it this way: A personal chatbot can be equipped with the same content as your personal website. The difference is that the bot will deliver it in a more engaging, modern way — in a conversational style via Messenger. The only requirement is that you have a [Facebook page (not just a profile)](https://www.facebook.com/help/337881706729661?helpref=faq_content) to connect to the bot. From there, the applications for your bot are nearly endless!

<figure><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36/original_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36.webp" alt="facebook page" height="854" width="2000" blurdataurl="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAACCAIAAADwyuo0AAAACXBIWXMAABCcAAAQnAEmzTo0AAAAJUlEQVR4nAEaAOX/AMrQ1C9MWhwAAIiMjwD6/P3Fu7bQwLn09PSpsQ9RA043hgAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==" placeholder="blur" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36/xs_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36/sm_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36/md_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36/lg_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36/xl_personal_chatbots_0_400dd23b36.webp 2000w"><figcaption>This is Katy Perry's Facebook page. (On the left you'll see a green button to "Create a Page" for yourself.)</figcaption></figure>

A great start would be to build your bot to [answer frequently asked questions](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-for-customer-service) about you, your personal brand, or your career. You can look at the questions you already receive via Messenger to know which FAQ answers to add. Plus, if users end up asking questions about you that your bot is *not*equipped to answer, you still benefit. You’ve now established a sort of feedback system, and you can learn from the data on what people want to know about you. (Or, you can equip your chatbot with artificial intelligence (AI) so it can respond to all questions.)

A personal bot can perform many other practical functions, too. It can share fun facts about you and your brand, or your recommendations for playlists, recipes, or articles. Your bot can allow users to book appointments or sessions with you in a few taps. It could even share your CV or portfolio for recruiters and potential employers, or link to your playlists on Spotify, your designs on Pinterest, your tweets, your posts on Medium, or content on any other social network.

## What a personal bot can do for you

No matter what you want users to learn or take away from an interaction with you, a personal bot can help. They can be educational, entertaining, promotional, or all of the above. Bots are completely customizable for your unique, personal brand.

You can use a personal bot to:

- **Acquire new users and followers 👥** If you receive positive engagement on your page posts, bring those users to your bot! With Chatfuel, it’s easy to [convert post commenters into bot users](https://chatfuel.com/blog/how-to-turn-facebook-post-commenters-into-customers). Once they subscribe, you have a direct way to communicate with your audience, one on one.
- **Promote products or services 🛍️** [Reengage messages](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJuUOcwdGzA&t=5s) are perfect for keeping your audience in the loop with your latest product offerings, too. For example, an author who launches a new book could send a message to their subscribers, sharing the news and offering a link to purchase. Reengage messages can be sent for free [within 24 hours](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/5627483-types-of-reengage-messages#h_b8201a2718) of a user’s last interaction with your bot, or at any time via paid [sponsored message.](https://chatfuel.com/blog/sponsored-messages-guide-to-reengaging-chatbot-subscribers)**‍**
- **Learn about your audience.** The [*People* tab](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/1575151-people-tab) in Chatfuel allows you to identify and segment the users who have interacted with your bot. Its robust functionalities allow you to use it as a“mini CRM” to study and keep track of your audience. You can even export user information to Facebook in one click to create custom ad audiences.

## Who can benefit from a personal chatbot

The great news is that most anyone who wants to communicate with and grow their audience can benefit from a chatbot assistant. Celebrities, public figures, athletes, and influencers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, and journalists, and even chefs, freelancers, singers, and bloggers—any of these professionals could use a bot to grow their business or influence. Besides having a Facebook page, the only requirement to build a personal bot is that you have content to share with an audience!

A chatbot personality works equally well for brands and individuals. Bots have many functionalities that allow you to promote and sell to users, but they can also be used simply to inform or entertain. Virtually anything you might put on a personal website can be easily translated into content for a chatbot.

## Chatfuel clients utilizing personal bots

## Tips for building your own personal chatbot

Ready to create a personal chatbot? Here are a few things to keep in mind:

- **Set your goals 💫**What do you want your chatbot to help you achieve? Is it just to entertain your family and friends, to build your career, or to promote your business? Once you pinpoint your motives, it’ll be easier to design the structure and tone of your bot.
- **Choose your content 💬** The whole purpose of a bot is to share content in a new and engaging way, so this step is the most important. Decide what your bot will be offering users, whether it’s biographical facts and information, inspirational stories or case studies, or links to your work or resources elsewhere on the web.
- **Curate your bot’s personality 😎** Your bot is an extension of you and your personal brand, so make sure it accurately [reflects your persona](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-names). Will your bot be funny, or serious? An expert, or a relatable family person? You can communicate your personality with the words your bot uses, the questions it asks, and any jokes, gifs, or photos it may share too.
- **Think of the user 👤** What benefit do users get by chatting with your bot? Messenger bots are an interesting and innovative new technology, but they’re of no use to you if they don’t add value to your users. Make sure to begin with your end result in mind.

Bots are incredibly useful in data-intensive industries like farming, because they can help streamline and automate tasks that were previously only performable by strict counting and old-fashioned human analysis. A Facebook bot for farmers can:

- **Save time ⏱️** With a bot, you’ll no longer need a human agent to spend their time responding to the same inquiries from customers over and over. It’s easy to equip a bot with helpful answers to [all the frequently asked questions](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-for-customer-service) your business receives, related to your farm, your products, or any other information.

- **Engage potential new clients 👥** Chatfuel’s bot-building platform has a feature called user attributes, which allows you to gather information about prospects who engage with your bot. Using that information, you can then have your bot segment these potential new customers to make future outreach efforts more targeted and effective. For example: If a prospect asks your bot about your cheese products, the bot will remember that. So next time you release a new cheese product, you’ll easily be able to reach that user and others who have already expressed an interest.

- **Easily communicate with customers and prospects 💬** People already feel at ease communicating via Facebook Messenger. It’s a platform where they’re used to chatting with family and friends, and this casual, intimate atmosphere is precisely what makes Messenger bots so powerful for businesses. Using the same informal, conversational style, a bot can make your customers feel comfortable as it answers their questions, gives them information, and promotes offers. Plus, it can [gather customer information in an easy and painless way](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeEEHU1nfjk&t=5s), because the user’s profile with their full name, language preference, time zone, and gender is immediately accessible to the bot when the conversation begins.

## Tips for optimizing a chatbot for your farming business

When deciding what information your bot will share with users, it’s important to put yourself in the customer’s or prospect’s shoes. Analyze the inquiries you already receive most frequently, and make sure your bot is equipped to address all of them. Set it up to offer as much information as possible about the products so that customers can make an informed decision and enjoy an engaging, interesting experience. Make sure to:

- **Share your information and your story 📝** It’s easy to equip your bot with key information prospects and customers would want to know about your business. Not only can you use it to share details about your hours, location, products, and pricing, but you can design it to tell your story, too. Have your bot offer details about the history of your farm and your mission, along with bios and photos of your team. Use it as an opportunity to draw people in and make them a part of the narrative of your company.

- **Educate 💡** Another useful tip is to design your bot to educate prospects and customers about what you do. If you offer organic products, for example, have your bot explain exactly what that means. Share how it affects your customers’ lives, and why they should invest in organic foods for themselves and their families. You should also share all details about the products you offer and make it simple to browse them, so customers can easily learn, shop, and discover new items they may be interested in.

- **Notify subscribers about news and updates 🔔** Have a new product release coming up, the latest blog post to share, or a community event, promotion, or sale you’re planning? With a chatbot, it’s easy to [let users know what’s new](https://chatfuel.com/blog/sponsored-messages-guide-to-reengaging-chatbot-subscribers) with your business.

- **Personalize the experience** 🙋🏽 The sky’s the limit when it comes to how you can customize the bot experience for your customers! One example would be to ask questions about the customer’s preferred diet or food allergies. Using a quiz-like style is an engaging way for you to gather information about the user’s preferences, which will then be stored in Chatfuel’s [*People* tab](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/1575151-people-tab) for your future use. Then, you can use the responses to recommend specific products that will meet their needs, all in a style that’s interactive and fun.

Why farmers and agriculture businesses should use chatbots

Tarot & Astrologia Brasil is a São Paulo-based company whose consultants provide tarot-card and astrology readings to customers over the phone. Even though some people don’t take this industry seriously, this brand strives to be a positive force in the lives of its customers by delivering high-quality, professional service.

This article shows the Tarot & Astrologia Brasil’s journey to cutting monthly operational costs by $25,000 and getting about 8,000 new visitors daily.

## Consultants spend half of their time dealing with prospects who would never be able to convert

As the customer trust grew and the company was getting more and more successful, its staff got overwhelmed with answering repetitive questions on the phone. Because of the local market specifics, most of those calls brought the company to the point where consultants spent much time with no benefit.

A team of experienced, thoroughly vetted consultants provide the readings to customers from a call center, and customers pay for their services via credit card. Roughly half of the Brazilians do not have a credit card, however. So, consultants spent over 50% of their time speaking with those who eventually had no way to pay. Nevertheless, the staff continued to grow to accommodate the call volume. However, they spent half of their time dealing with prospects who would never be able to convert.

## Chatbot Cassandra steps in generation and qualification process

Cassandra is a name of Greek origin, meaning *shining upon man*. The Tarot & Astrologia Brasil [chose this name for their bot](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-names) for Facebook Messenger. Cassandra’s primary function is to qualify leads using a series of questions. This process includes taking the prospect through the payment funnel. As a result, no human time is wasted talking to users who can’t pay.

The Cassandra bot asks visitors about their basic preferences too (such as the type of reading desired), which also helps to save the human agents time. It also provides biographies and photos of available consultants to build trust and quizzes and articles to promote user engagement.

Thanks to Cassandra, the Tarot & Astrologia Brasil consultants can now focus only on qualified leads who already trusted the company and shared their payment info. This boost in efficiency allows them to help more paying customers while providing an even better quality of service.

## The Cassandra bot’s superpowers

- [Gallery cards.](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/925465-media-assets) This Chatfuel feature allows Tarot & Astrologia Brasil to display each consultant’s photos, biographies, ratings, and specialties. This visual display shows customers a picture of their service provider, which builds trust and provides a polished, professional touch.

- [User attributes](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/5573554-attributes). The bot greets users by name to create the intimate, personal feel astrology customers desire. The brand also uses attributes to segment users and save their information in [the People tab](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/1575151-people-tab), which helps with future ad retargeting.

- [Sequences](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/908868-sequences). With sequences, the bot provides a daily article about astrology or tarot to users who subscribe to the newsletter. This feature allows the brand to entertain and nurture visitors' curiosity, keep them engaged and add value to their experience.

## Facebook automation cuts monthly operational costs by $25,000 and brings about 8,000 new users daily

Tarot & Astrologia Brasil’s new Facebook bot has cut its monthly operational costs by $25,000. In addition, with only qualified prospects making it through to the call center, they reduced their staff from 55 to 25 consultants.

Their bot’s success has also led them to shift their ad dollars from the more expensive Google AdWords and regular Facebook ads to [click-to-Messenger ads](https://chatfuel.com/blog/create-click-to-messenger-ads-to-drive-traffic-to-your-bot) only. This move has saved them money and brought a steady growth of approximately 8,000 new users daily over the first two months.

Not only does the bot help the company cut costs, but fewer employees means better supervision and better service. The brand can now provide a top-quality service experience while improving the level of professionalism in the industry, all thanks to their new Facebook Messenger bot.
