How to Change the Facebook Account Linked to WhatsApp

Your WhatsApp Business Account is connected to a specific Facebook (Meta) account.

Last updated on

Your WhatsApp Business Account is connected to a specific Facebook (Meta) account. If you need to switch to a different Facebook account — for example, because a team member left or you're consolidating business assets — you'll need to make the change in Meta Business Suite, not in Chatfuel.

Why this can't be done inside Chatfuel

Chatfuel connects to your WhatsApp number through the Meta (Facebook) platform. The link between your Facebook account and WhatsApp Business Account is managed entirely on Meta's side. Chatfuel reads this connection but cannot change it.

How to change the linked Facebook account

  1. Open Meta Business Settings.

  2. Go to People and add the new Facebook account as an admin with Full Control permissions.

  3. Log in to Meta Business Suite using the new Facebook account and confirm you have access to the WhatsApp Business Account under Accounts → WhatsApp accounts.

  4. Once the new account has full access, you can remove the old Facebook account from the Business Portfolio under People.

  5. Next time you need to manage your WhatsApp connection in Chatfuel — for example, to reconnect your phone number — log in with the new Facebook account when prompted.

Important notes

  • The new Facebook account must have admin-level access to the Meta Business Portfolio that owns the WhatsApp Business Account. Without this, the account won't see the WhatsApp number during setup.

  • Do not remove the old account before the new one has full access — you could lose access to your WhatsApp Business Account entirely.

  • If the old Facebook account is restricted or disabled, you may need to contact Meta Support to transfer ownership. See our troubleshooting guide for more details on restricted accounts.

  • Changing the linked Facebook account does not affect your WhatsApp phone number, display name, or conversation history in Chatfuel. Everything stays the same — only the Meta login changes.
