Chatfuel MCP Tools and Playbooks
Every tool of the Chatfuel MCP server by task, which ones only read, which change your bot and ask first, and the playbooks for multi-step jobs.
Last updated on
The Chatfuel MCP server gives your AI assistant a set of tools, each doing one job in your Chatfuel account, plus playbooks: short step-by-step guides for multi-step tasks. You don't call the tools yourself. The assistant picks them from your request, and the names below help you read what it did.
The tools here are on the MCP link https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel. The developer tools of https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel/api are in MCP or API MCP: which Chatfuel link to use.
Which tools read your account?
These tools only read and are available with Read-only access:
list_bots: your workspaces, bots and each workspace's plan and AI credits.get_bot: a bot's connected channels and its Automations, on or off.get_automation: one automation's settings and the posts, keywords or links it is limited to.get_knowledge_base: company details, instructions, business hours, FAQ, services and specialists.list_posts: recent Instagram posts and reels and Facebook Page posts, 25 per page. TikTok posts are not listed.list_chatsandget_chat: customer chats, 20 per page, and the last 20 messages of one chat.review_chats: a summary of the latest 25 chats, or up to 100 in a period: unanswered chats, handoffs, undelivered messages, repeated questions and questions the FAQ doesn't cover.diagnose_bot: why the bot doesn't reply, most blocking cause first.search_docs,get_docandget_playbook: Chatfuel help articles and playbooks.
Which tools change the Knowledge Base?
add_faq: adds up to 20 questions and answers. Questions already in the FAQ are skipped.update_faq: changes or removes FAQ entries. Removed entries can't be restored.set_company_info: company name, email, phone, address, website and how to pay.set_instructions: replaces the AI's additional instructions, such as topics to avoid.set_business_hours: replaces the weekly hours. Days left out are closed.
What these fields do is in how to set up the Knowledge Base.
Which tools change Automations and comment replies?
enable_ai: turns on Fuely AI for the channels you pick: WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or web chat. It turns on the Main bot and each channel's base automations for messages, story replies, links and ads. Comment automations stay as they are.set_automation_enabled: turns one automation on or off. It never changes the Main bot, and turning an automation off keeps its settings.update_automation_setting: changes one setting, such as when the AI replies, handoff to your team, follow-ups, contact collection, booking rules, or the public and private reply of a comment automation.setup_comment_replies: sets up AI or fixed replies to comments on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok, for all posts or for chosen posts and keywords.
Which tools handle chats, bookings and tests?
send_chat_message: sends your text to a real customer and moves the chat to live chat. A sent message can't be recalled.take_over_chat: moves a chat to live chat with you without sending anything.return_chat_to_ai: closes live chat, and the AI answers the customer's last message right away.setup_booking: creates or updates bookable services and specialists, up to 50 services and 30 specialists per request. It deletes nothing.remove_booking_item: deletes one service or specialist. Bookings customers already made stay.test_reply: sends a sample customer message to a sandbox chat and returns the bot's reply. No real customer gets messages.
Which changes does the assistant ask about first?
The Chatfuel MCP server instructs the assistant to ask one yes/no question before it turns on the AI, turns an automation off, changes or removes FAQ entries, replaces company info, instructions, business hours or a setting, removes a service, or moves a chat to or from live chat. Every customer message needs a yes to its exact text. "Maybe", "up to you" or a conditional yes isn't a yes: the assistant changes nothing and says what it skipped. A sandbox test with test_reply doesn't need a yes.
What are playbooks?
Playbooks are step-by-step guides the assistant reads with get_playbook before multi-step jobs:
- Setup:
onboarding(picks the bot and checks the plan),bot-overview,ai-persona(name, tone, language, greeting),automation-settings,business-hours,diagnose-no-replies. - Knowledge base:
fill-knowledge-base,manage-catalog. - Channels:
comments-autoreply,comments-troubleshoot,connect-whatsapp. - Customers:
reply-to-chats,find-leads,manage-bookings. - Analytics:
improve-from-chats.
The catalog, appointments, lead stages and the WhatsApp connection link work only on the API MCP link. On the MCP link, the assistant points you to the dashboard for them.
