DM to Follow

Chatfuel cannot send a DM automatically when someone follows your Instagram account: Meta does not expose a "new follower" event to any platform.

This article explains why it's currently not possible to automatically send a DM when someone follows your Instagram account, and what to expect in the future.

Why You Can't Send a DM After a New Follow

Instagram does not currently allow third-party tools — including Chatfuel — to trigger automated messages when someone starts following your account. This is an Instagram platform limitation, not a Chatfuel one.

DM to Follow Feature (Alpha)

We are actively working on a DM to Follow feature that will let you automatically send a message to a user the moment they follow your Instagram account.

This feature is currently in Alpha and available to a limited group of creators. We are working to roll it out to everyone as soon as possible.

What You Can Do Right Now

While DM to Follow is not yet available broadly, here are ways to engage new followers:

  • Story replies — enable the story replies automation so Fuely AI responds when followers reply to your stories
  • DM keywords — invite followers in your bio or posts to DM you a specific word or phrase; with the direct messages automation on, Fuely AI picks up the conversation
  • Comment automation — auto-reply to comments on your posts and prompt users to DM you

When Will It Be Available?

We don't have a specific release date to share yet. Once DM to Follow is out of Alpha and available to all accounts, we will announce it through:

  • In-app notifications
  • Our official blog and social channels

Stay tuned for updates.
