A click-to-WhatsApp funnel has exactly four places to break: the review, the ad, the handover into WhatsApp, and the conversation. Find your symptom below — each fix names the piece that's actually failing, so you stop tweaking budgets when the problem is a button label.
The ad won't pass review
That's not an ads problem, it's a policy problem — and it has its own playbook. Check the flagged asset in Account Quality, fix the actual violation, and don't resubmit unchanged. The full walkthrough — common rejection reasons, edit vs. appeal, protecting the account — is in Meta ad moderation.
The ad delivers, but nobody messages
Clicks without conversations almost always mean the ad promised something other than a chat:
- The CTA doesn't match the action. "Learn More" on a chat ad makes people expect a website; when WhatsApp opens instead, they close it. Use "Send Message" — the button should describe what the thumb is about to do.
- The copy never mentions messaging. Set the expectation in the text itself: "Message us and get the price list in a minute." Copy for chat ads is its own craft.
- The wrong WhatsApp number is attached. In Ads Manager, the campaign must have WhatsApp as the messaging destination with the client's Chatfuel-connected number selected. A campaign pointed at a different number sends leads into a phone nobody's bot is watching.
- Targeting is strangled. Chat ads respond well to broad delivery — over-narrowed interest stacks starve them. Start broad and let the copy self-select the audience.
And if an ad that used to convert has gone quiet, the creative may simply be fatigued — generate a fresh one and keep a rotation.
Leads message, but the bot doesn't answer
The ad did its job; the conversation side is down. This is the qualification-bot checklist — in short: is the AI on, is it set to answer leads from ads, is it set to reply only outside working hours during the day, is the channel still connected? One detail is ads-specific: ads that click to WhatsApp have their own automation, separate from direct messages — if the bot answers DMs but ignores ad traffic, that automation is probably off. Turn it on at Fuely AI → Automations, or tell the AI Co-Worker: "Make the AI answer leads coming from my WhatsApp ads."
Leads come in, but they're junk
Volume without quality is a copy-and-qualification problem, not a bidding problem:
- The pre-filled message is a bare "Hi." Pre-fill something with intent — "Hi! I'd like the July price for a studio" — and the bot starts qualification a step ahead.
- The copy attracts everyone. A hook that filters ("12 spots for July") loses cheap clicks and gains real buyers. Judge ads on cost per qualified conversation, not per click.
- The qualification fields don't match the niche. If the bot isn't asking what the client's sales team needs to prioritize a lead, fix the fields — junk is often just "unqualified," and qualification is the bot's job.
Several ads, one funnel — and every lead gets the same conversation
If you run different offers, give each ad its own distinct pre-filled message ("Whitening", "Checkup", "Urgent"). Chatfuel can recognize the exact first message a lead sends and route each ad's traffic down its own path — keep the pre-filled texts short and distinct so they match reliably, and the AI still catches anyone who edits the message before sending.
"Where do I manage the ads inside Chatfuel?"
You don't — and that's by design. Campaigns, budgets, and creatives upload live in Meta Ads Manager; Chatfuel owns everything after the click: the instant answer, the qualification, the handoff to the client's team. One tool per job — your media buyer stays in Ads Manager, your funnel runs itself in Chatfuel.
Note: test the funnel like a lead, end to end. Before scaling spend, click the real ad on a real phone: does WhatsApp open with the pre-filled message, does the bot answer within seconds, does a completed qualification land in the team inbox? Five minutes of playing the lead finds the leak faster than a week of staring at CPM charts.
