# MCP or API MCP: Which Chatfuel Link to Use

Use https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel for ready-made bot tools in any assistant, and /panel/api in coding agents for the full Chatfuel GraphQL API.

Chatfuel has two MCP server links. `https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel` (**MCP**) gives any assistant ready-made tools for managing bots. `https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel/api` (**API MCP**) gives coding agents the whole Chatfuel GraphQL API, so they can search the schema and run any query or mutation your account allows.

## What does the MCP link give the assistant? [#what-does-the-mcp-link-give-the-assistant]

The MCP link `https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel` has typed tools that each do one job: list bots, turn on the AI, add FAQ entries, set up comment replies, add services and specialists, review chats, reply to a customer, test a reply in a sandbox chat, and more. The tools explain what they change and ask for a yes where needed, so the MCP link fits Claude, ChatGPT, Muse and everyday work in any assistant. It is the only link with a **Read-only** option.

## What does the API MCP link give the assistant? [#what-does-the-api-mcp-link-give-the-assistant]

The API MCP link `https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel/api` is for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Antigravity. It exposes the [Chatfuel Public API](https://chatfuel.com/docs/public-api/overview) through a few general tools:

* `search_schema`, `list_operations`, `get_type` and `get_operation` find the right GraphQL operation and show its arguments.
* `execute_query` and `execute_mutation` run it. `execute_mutation` can check a request with `validateOnly` without sending it.
* `upload_file` uploads an image, video, audio file or document and returns its file ID.

The API MCP link also keeps the combined tools for the most common jobs: turning on the AI, comment replies, booking setup, chat review, diagnostics, sandbox tests and sending a chat message.

## What can I do only with API MCP? [#what-can-i-do-only-with-api-mcp]

Some tasks have no ready-made tool and are available only on `https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel/api`:

* Managing products in the catalog.
* Reading appointments and booking, moving, confirming or cancelling them.
* Moving leads between stages on the leads board.
* Creating a link to connect a WhatsApp number.
* Uploading files.

On the MCP link, the assistant points you to the Chatfuel dashboard for these tasks.

## Can I add both links? [#can-i-add-both-links]

Yes. Add them under different names, for example `chatfuel` and `chatfuel-api`. The two links are separate connections: a sign-in to one doesn't work for the other, so sign in to each. A CLI token works on both links.

## How does a GraphQL request through API MCP look? [#how-does-a-graphql-request-through-api-mcp-look]

The assistant usually searches the schema, reads the operation and runs it. For a request like *"List my bots"*, it finds `currentUser` with `search_schema`, reads it with `get_operation` and runs a document such as:

```graphql
query Me {
  currentUser {
    botsV2(first: 50) {
      edges { node { id title } }
      pageInfo { hasNextPage endCursor }
    }
  }
}
```

The assistant runs only what your account's permissions allow. Some operations are closed to MCP on both links, for example deleting bots, managing teammates, billing and creating broadcasts.

## Common issues [#common-issues]

### Which link should I add to Claude or ChatGPT? [#which-link-should-i-add-to-claude-or-chatgpt]

Add `https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel`. Claude, ChatGPT and Muse work with the ready-made tools of the MCP link.

### Can I use API MCP with read-only access? [#can-i-use-api-mcp-with-read-only-access]

No. API MCP always works with full access, because some GraphQL queries also change data. For read-only access, use the MCP link and turn on **Read-only** when you sign in.

### The assistant says an operation is not available [#the-assistant-says-an-operation-is-not-available]

Some operations are closed to MCP, and some need a working plan or a role in the bot. Do the task in the Chatfuel dashboard at panel.chatfuel.com.
