# How to Connect VS Code to Chatfuel

Run code --add-mcp with the Chatfuel MCP link, trust the server and sign in to Chatfuel. Use /panel for bots or /panel/api for the full GraphQL API.

VS Code connects to Chatfuel with one `code --add-mcp` command. After you trust the server and sign in with your Chatfuel account, the agent in VS Code can manage your bots or, with the developer link, work with the full Chatfuel GraphQL API.

## How to add the Chatfuel server [#how-to-add-the-chatfuel-server]

1. Run this command in your terminal:

   ```
   code --add-mcp '{"name":"chatfuel","type":"http","url":"https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel"}'
   ```

2. When VS Code asks, trust the server and sign in to Chatfuel.

The `chatfuel` server gives the agent the ready-made Chatfuel tools for bots, Automations, the Knowledge Base, comment replies, chats and bookings.

## How to add the full Chatfuel API [#how-to-add-the-full-chatfuel-api]

For scripts and integrations, add the developer server under its own name:

```
code --add-mcp '{"name":"chatfuel-api","type":"http","url":"https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel/api"}'
```

Trust it and sign in to Chatfuel again: the two servers are separate connections. The difference between them is in [MCP or API MCP: which Chatfuel link to use](https://chatfuel.com/docs/mcp/which-chatfuel-mcp-link-to-use).

## How to connect VS Code with a CLI token [#how-to-connect-vs-code-with-a-cli-token]

If VS Code can't sign in through the browser, pass a CLI token in the server headers:

```
code --add-mcp '{"name":"chatfuel-api","type":"http","url":"https://mcp.chatfuel.com/panel/api","headers":{"Authorization":"Bearer <token>"}}'
```

Replace `<token>` with your Chatfuel CLI token. Anyone with the token can access your Chatfuel account, so don't commit it to a repository. Where to create the token is in [Chatfuel MCP sign-in, read-only access and CLI token](https://chatfuel.com/docs/mcp/mcp-sign-in-read-only-and-cli-token).

## What can I ask the agent in VS Code? [#what-can-i-ask-the-agent-in-vs-code]

Examples:

* *"Show me my bots and which ones have AI turned on."*
* *"Check how my bot answers a customer asking 'Do you deliver on Sundays?'"*
* *"Find the GraphQL mutation that moves a lead to another stage"* (with `chatfuel-api`).

More requests are in [Chatfuel MCP example prompts](https://chatfuel.com/docs/mcp/chatfuel-mcp-example-prompts).

## Common issues [#common-issues]

### VS Code doesn't show Chatfuel tools [#vs-code-doesnt-show-chatfuel-tools]

Make sure the server is trusted and running in VS Code's MCP server list, then sign in to Chatfuel when asked.

### VS Code asks me to sign in again [#vs-code-asks-me-to-sign-in-again]

The Chatfuel sign-in has expired or was revoked in **Connected apps** in the Chatfuel dashboard. Restart the server in VS Code and sign in again.
