# Scripts for asking clients for access

Most access delays aren't technical — they're conversational.

Most access delays aren't technical — they're conversational. The client doesn't understand what you're asking for, half-suspects you want the keys to their business, and quietly parks your request under "deal with later." The fix is a message that explains what you need, why it's safe, and exactly where to click — in words a busy owner reads in thirty seconds. Here are those messages, built around the [access checklist](https://chatfuel.com/docs/for-agencies/what-to-ask-the-client-for). Steal them.

## Before you hit send [#before-you-hit-send]

Three principles that make these scripts work:

* **One ask per message.** A message with five requests gets zero of them done. Bundle the assets into a single grant, but make it feel like one action: "add us as a partner."
* **Say why, in their outcome, not your tooling.** Not "we need dataset permissions for CAPI" but "so Meta learns which leads turn into money and finds you more of them."
* **Put safety in the first message, unprompted.** "You keep full ownership and can revoke everything in one click" — said before they wonder — is the sentence that gets requests approved same-day.

## Script 1 — the access request (client has a Business Portfolio) [#script-1--the-access-request-client-has-a-business-portfolio]

Send after the contract is signed, along with your Business Portfolio ID:

```text
Hi [Name]! To get your campaigns live, we need access to your business assets
on Meta. The professional way to do this is "partner access": you connect our
agency to your Business Portfolio, and we only get the specific permissions we
need to do the work.
Important part first: you keep full ownership of everything. We never get your
password, you can see exactly what we have access to, and you can revoke it
all in one click at any time.
I'll send you a request from our side — you'll get a notification from Meta,
review what we're asking for, and hit Approve. That's it, takes about a minute.
We'll be requesting: the ad account, the Facebook Page, the Instagram account,
and the pixel. If anything looks off, tell me and we'll adjust.
```

Then send the request from **your** Business Settings ([Route B](https://chatfuel.com/docs/for-agencies/meta-partner-access) — the client only clicks Approve). If the client prefers to do it from their side, forward Script 2.

## Script 2 — click-by-click instructions (forward as-is) [#script-2--click-by-click-instructions-forward-as-is]

For the client who says "just tell me where to click":

```text
Takes ~5 minutes. You'll need to be logged into the Facebook account that
manages your business.
1. Open business.facebook.com/settings
2. In the left menu, click "Partners", then "Add"
3. Choose "Give a partner access to your assets"
4. Paste our Business Portfolio ID: [YOUR 16-DIGIT ID]
5. Select the assets to share:
   - Ad account: [exact name]
   - Facebook Page: [exact name]
   - Instagram account: [exact name]
   - Pixel/dataset: [exact name]
6. For each one, enable the permissions for managing ads and content
   (no need to give "Full control" — we don't need it)
7. Click "Assign assets"
That's it — we'll confirm from our side the moment it lands. If any screen
looks different from what I described, send me a screenshot and we'll do it
together on a quick call.
```

Fill in the exact asset names before sending — "which ad account?" is the #1 place this stalls.

## Script 3 — the client has no Business Manager [#script-3--the-client-has-no-business-manager]

For the "we don't have any of that" client. The goal: make it a plan, not a problem.

```text
No worries — that's actually the good scenario: we get to set everything up
correctly from day one, with no legacy issues.
Here's the plan. Together we'll create your Meta Business Portfolio — it's
free and it will be fully OWNED BY YOU: your page, your ad account, your
WhatsApp number, your customer data. We get partner access to do the work,
and if we ever part ways, everything stays with you. That's how it should be.
From you we'll need:
- 30 minutes on a call (I'll navigate, you click)
- your business registration document — Meta uses it to verify the business,
  which unlocks higher messaging limits on WhatsApp
- a card for the ad account (your ads, your billing — full transparency)
- the phone number you want customers to reach you on in WhatsApp
When can you grab half an hour this week?
```

Then follow the [from-scratch guide](https://chatfuel.com/docs/for-agencies/when-the-client-has-no-business-manager) on that call.

## Script 4 — the follow-up [#script-4--the-follow-up]

Three days of silence usually means confusion, not refusal. Shrink the ask:

```text
Hi [Name]! Quick nudge on the Meta access — it's the only thing between us
and launch, everything else on our side is ready.
If the instructions feel like a maze (honestly, Meta's menus are nobody's
favorite), let's just do a 10-minute call: you share your screen, I tell you
exactly where to click, done. Today at [time] or tomorrow at [time]?
```

The screen-share offer isn't just a courtesy — for connecting WhatsApp and Instagram to Chatfuel you'll likely want that call anyway, since those authorizations happen from the client's own login.

## "Is this safe?" — the objection handling [#is-this-safe--the-objection-handling]

The questions behind the hesitation, and answers that close them:

**"Why do you need this much access?"**
"We only asked for task-level permissions on the specific assets we work on — ads, page, pixel. We deliberately did *not* ask for Full control of your portfolio. You can see the exact list in Business Settings → Partners, next to our name."

**"Can't I just give you my login?"**
"Please don't — sharing logins is against Meta's rules and often triggers a security lock on your account, which can freeze your ads for days. Partner access exists exactly so you never have to share a password."

**"What happens if we stop working together?"**
"You go to Business Settings → Partners and remove us. One click. Everything — the page, the ad account, the audiences, the WhatsApp number and its chat history — stays with you, because it was yours the whole time."

**"Can you see my personal Facebook?"**
"No. Partner access connects business to business. We see the business assets you assigned — nothing about your personal profile, messages, or friends."

**"Why does connecting WhatsApp need Full control?"**
"That one's Meta's requirement for the connection step, not ours — the account that authorizes a WhatsApp connection must have full control of *your* portfolio. Easiest way: we do it together on a 15-minute call where you stay logged in and click. Alternatively, you can add one named person from our team with that access and remove them right after — your call."

Once the access lands, [create the client's company](https://chatfuel.com/docs/for-agencies/create-a-client-company) in Chatfuel and put it to work.
