# Messaging rules for Facebook

To prevent spam, Meta puts limits on when a Facebook Page can message people in Messenger.

To prevent spam, Meta puts limits on when a Facebook Page can message people in Messenger. **These rules apply to Facebook only** — Instagram and WhatsApp have their own.

## Comments [#comments]

When someone comments under one of your Page's posts, Facebook lets you answer in two ways, and Fuely AI uses both through [comment autoreply](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/facebook-autoreply):

* **Public reply** — a comment under theirs, no limits beyond Facebook's usual rules.
* **Private reply** — one Messenger message per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment. Only one private reply is allowed per comment; further messages can be sent once the person replies in Messenger.

A person who only commented and never messaged your Page may receive the private reply in their message requests folder, without a notification. A public reply that says "check your inbox" helps them find it.

## Messenger [#messenger]

For contacts who have messaged your Page, you can message them within time windows from their last message:

**Fuely AI**: *24 hours* — the same [24-hour messaging window](https://chatfuel.com/docs/whatsapp/24-hour-messaging-window) concept used on WhatsApp

**Chats tab (live chat)**: *24 hours* — the same window applies to human agents in Messenger

The 24-hour window for Fuely AI is driven by the bot's own replies — it opens and resets only when an automation matches and the bot actually answers, not on every interaction. For the full rules on when the window opens, extends, and resets, see [how Fuely AI sessions work](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/how-fuely-ai-sessions-work).

## Ads and m.me links [#ads-and-mme-links]

Conversations that start from an m.me link or an ad that clicks to Messenger open a normal Messenger conversation — the 24-hour window starts with the person's first message. See [m.me links and ads that click to Messenger](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/m-me-links-and-ads-that-click-to-messenger).
