# Facebook Automations

Fuely AI handles your Facebook Page through automations, one per source: Messenger DMs, comments under Page posts, m.me links and ads that click to Messenger.

Fuely AI talks to your Facebook audience through [automations](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/automations) — one for every place a conversation can start on your Facebook Page: Messenger, comments under your posts, m.me links, and ads that open Messenger. Each automation has its own settings, so you can keep one shared behavior across all of Facebook or fine-tune every source separately.

On Chatfuel, "Facebook" and "Messenger" are the same channel. It is a [connected Facebook Page](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/how-to-connect-a-facebook-fanpage): DMs to that Page land in Messenger, comments land under the Page's posts. Logging in with Facebook to connect Instagram or WhatsApp does not connect a Facebook Page — that is a separate step in **Settings** → **Facebook**.

You manage automations in two equal ways: at **Fuely AI** → **Automations** in the dashboard, or by asking the [AI Co-Worker](/docs/ai-features/what-the-ai-co-worker-can-do-for-you) in chat — *"Show my Facebook automations."* Both do the same thing.

## The four Facebook sources [#the-four-facebook-sources]

Under **Facebook** in Automations you'll find a source for each way a customer can reach you:

* **Incoming messages** — DMs to your Page in Messenger
* **Posts** — comments under your Page's posts
* **m.me link** — conversations started from an m.me link
* **Ads that click to Messenger** — DMs from people who tapped an ad that opens Messenger

Each source has a **base automation**. It's always there — it can't be renamed or deleted — and it starts off, so [turning AI on for a source](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/how-to-activate-ai-in-facebook) simply means enabling its automation. Sources you leave off stay silent.

Facebook has no reels, stories, or ad-comment sources. Comments under a post are handled by the **Posts** source; ads are handled by the **Ads that click to Messenger** source, which watches conversations that start from the ad, not comments left on it.

## Custom automations [#custom-automations]

On the posts, link, and ad sources — everything except incoming messages — you can add up to 30 [custom automations](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/how-to-create-a-custom-automation): named rules that react only to specific content, such as a keyword, a particular post, one m.me link, or one ad. On the **Posts** source, rules also control the **Public reply** under the comment and the **Private reply** sent to Messenger — see [Facebook comment autoreply](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/facebook-autoreply). When several automations could answer the same comment or message, [a priority order picks one](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/which-automation-replies-to-a-message-or-comment): rules targeted at the specific post or ad win over general rules, and general rules win over the base.

## Your comments and DMs in one place [#your-comments-and-dms-in-one-place]

When someone comments and Fuely AI replies, you'll see both the public comment thread and the private Messenger reply in the **Chats** tab. In Messenger, the AI knows which post, link, or ad the conversation came from, so its answers stay in context.

## Contact properties [#contact-properties]

Contacts created by Facebook automations carry source properties so you can see where each person came from.

## Messaging limits [#messaging-limits]

Messenger restricts when you can message people — see [messaging rules for Facebook](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/messaging-rules-for-facebook) for full details.

* **After a comment** — one private reply per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment. After that, wait for the person to reply in Messenger.
* **In Messenger** — 24 hours to message after the person's last message.

## Where your DMs end up [#where-your-dms-end-up]

* If someone has **messaged your Page before** — your message goes to their Messenger inbox.
* If they **have never messaged you** and only left a comment — your private reply may land in their message requests folder, with no notification.

Messages in the requests folder are easy to miss. On the posts source, use the public reply to point new commenters at their inbox:
