# Facebook Comment Autoreply

Fuely AI replies to comments under your Facebook Page's posts — publicly under the comment, in a private Messenger message, or both.

Fuely AI replies to comments under your Facebook Page's posts — publicly under the comment, in a private Messenger message, or both. Comment replies are handled by the **Posts** [automation](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/automations) source. For the full picture of Facebook sources, see [Facebook automations](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/facebook-tasks).

## How comment automations are organized [#how-comment-automations-are-organized]

The **Posts** source has a **base automation** — the permanent catch-all. It starts off; turn it on and Fuely AI answers every comment under your posts, using your instructions and Knowledge Base.

On top of the base, the source takes up to 30 [custom automations](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/how-to-create-a-custom-automation) — named rules for specific cases. A rule can target:

* **Keywords** — react to comments matching a word exactly, containing it, not containing it, or to any comment at all (up to 50 keywords per rule)
* **A list of posts** — only comments on the posts you pick, up to 50 per rule; leave the list empty and the rule covers every post on the Page

Every comment rule — base or custom — controls two replies you can enable independently:

* **Public reply** — the visible answer under the comment: written by the AI, or a fixed text you set
* **Private reply** — the Messenger message sent to the commenter

## Which rule answers a comment [#which-rule-answers-a-comment]

When several rules could match, Chatfuel picks exactly one, in [priority order](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/which-automation-replies-to-a-message-or-comment): rules targeted at specific posts first, then general custom rules, then the base automation. Within those, an exact keyword match beats a contains match, which beats an any-comment rule. Rules that are turned off never compete.

Comment sources also offer a "don't reply" choice in **Incoming messages**, so a rule can deliberately leave the comments it matches unanswered — for example, keeping the AI quiet on one post while the base automation keeps answering everywhere else.

## Set it up in Automations [#set-it-up-in-automations]

1. Go to **Fuely AI** → **Automations**.
2. Under **Facebook**, open **Posts**.
3. Turn on the base automation to answer every comment, or add a custom automation and set its keywords or [list of posts](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/how-to-set-up-automation-for-specific-posts-or-ads). Picking specific posts requires a [connected Facebook Page](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/how-to-connect-a-facebook-fanpage); everything else can be set up before connecting.
4. Set the **Public reply** and **Private reply**, and adjust **Additional instructions** if you want a specific tone or goal.
5. Try it in the [Test chat](https://chatfuel.com/docs/ai-features/how-to-test-your-automation) sidebar before going live.

## Or ask the AI Co-Worker [#or-ask-the-ai-co-worker]

Tell it what you want in chat:

*"When someone comments PRICE under my Facebook posts, reply publicly and send them the price list in Messenger."*

It applies the change and confirms what it set. If your Page isn't connected yet, it sets everything up first and takes you to the connection step at the end.

## Tips for writing instructions [#tips-for-writing-instructions]

* Be specific about your tone and style.
* State your goal — drive people to Messenger, answer questions, share a link.
* Include examples of what you want Fuely AI to say. It can include links in both public replies and Messenger messages:

> *If the comment says EBOOK, send this link: chatfuel.com/ebook*
>
> *When someone asks about pricing, share our pricing page: yoursite.com/pricing*

## Important notes [#important-notes]

### Messaging limits [#messaging-limits]

Messenger [limits how you can message people after a comment](https://chatfuel.com/docs/facebook/messaging-rules-for-facebook):

* **After a comment** — one private reply per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment. Further messages wait for the person to reply in Messenger.
* **Existing contacts** — 24-hour window to message after their last message.

### Where private replies end up [#where-private-replies-end-up]

* **People who have messaged your Page before** — the message goes to their Messenger inbox.
* **People who only commented** — the message may land in their message requests folder, with no notification.

To help new commenters find your message, add a public reply that points them to their inbox:

> *Thanks for your comment! Just sent you a message.*
>
> *Appreciate your interest! Check your Messenger inbox.*

### Plans [#plans]

Fixed-text public replies and Messenger messages work on every plan. Replies written by the AI require a paid plan — see [plans and pricing](https://chatfuel.com/docs/billing/chatfuel-plans-and-pricing).
